Good day

I have a DSG T6.1 & have done the upgrade to Tiguan type gear lever.

However made a bit of a mess-up and ordered a T6 manual gaiter & frame...

Can someone please provide me with the part number (or source!) for a T6.1 manual gaiter & frame.

Thanks in advance!!

I just googled VW T6.1 breakers and bought mine from them cost about £35 for gear lever gaitor and frame.

John.

Hi guys, I'm about to swap out the gear lever, am I right in thinking that I have to change the existing DSG gaiter to a manual one when swapping for the Tiguan lever?

Well - that's what I did....

But you don't have to - some people stick with having the 'old' illuminated indicators still on the left of the gear stick like this:- T6.1 DSG illuminated selector

Others have used (I think) a manual gaiter (literally just the leather part) and wrapped it over the 'old' DSG indicators like this:- T6.1 DSG illuminated selector

I however went a third route! I bought from a Transporter breaker a manual gaiter and frame like this:-

Note the additional black frame between gaiter and trim.

So you have any part numbers and some advice on changing this? Mine is starting to vibrate and irritating me on the motorway.

Yes. Give me a few hours as off-site at the mo and I'll dig out and send over

Right, so here is the detail:-

Firstly I don't know whether you've done the illuminated DSG (Tiguan) gear knob upgrade yet, if not there are some really good instructions here (including how to vid - generic for VAG vehicles but shows in some detail the 'warm&twist' thing you need to do):-

I bought the actual gear knob from Travelinlite, but they don't have them listed on their site anymore. Plenty of other options like:- LED VW & Audi DSG Shifter Knob Plug and Play

Regarding the gaiter, there appear to be 3 different ways of doing this:-

1) Just stick with having the 'old' illuminated indicators still on the left of the gear stick like this:

2) A manual gaiter (literally just the leather part) and wrap it over the 'old' DSG indicators (unplugging them first I assume so they don't illuminate under the leather) like this:

3) Lastly use a manual gaiter, and gaiter frame which I did. I bought the frame from a Transporter breaker [www.transporterheaven.co.uk] a then a manual gaiter from eBay I think. It ends up looking like this (Note the additional black frame between gaiter and trim.):

With hindsight, I wish I'd gone with option 2 as the cheapest and easiest solution! I just couldn't cope with option 1 - OCD would freak out!!!!

I never thought of option 2. could have saved some money as I got mine from somewhere online new.

Thank you @z1ts great write up.
Looks like I need to work out which one of the gear levels I want to choose.

Would love to meet up soon and have a look at the finished results in the flesh.
