Passenger airbag swap - Captains seat to Double.

The airbag unit is held in the underside of the dash by four nuts onto four studs that are mounted vertical, if you remove the upper glovebox/cubby hole then you can see the front two nuts and the yellow airbag connector on the underside but the rear ones will be much more difficult for access
I think the issue will be if the airbag will drop out of the dash with the four nuts removed or if it will foul all the stuff below it and need the dash removing to get the airbag out (which is what I suspect you would need to do)

Ah ok. Do you know anyone who has removed it, I guess if I take off the battery then the airbag is ‘dead’? Last thing is I don’t want it to explode when messing with it.

OK so this is something i am thinking of - is it just a case of getting a double seat airbag and connecting it up (with same connectors as single) and away you go or is it much more complicated?

Hi All,
I'm looking for advice please, i currently have a T5.1 2015 Sportline 60th Edition. I'm looking to replace the front passenger seat to a double seat.

I've been looking on Ebay and have found VW Transporter T6 Double Passenger Bench Seat In Simora from a 2017 transporter for £100.

Can someone tell me if i purchased this it would fit in my T5.1? Or do i need to get a T5 double passenger bench.

I've been told the fittings could be different and don't want to waste any money....

Appreciate your advice and hopefully this is the right place to post this message.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark
Did you get this sorted, what did you end up doing?

If it helps, I bought a T5 double to take the folding hinge out, and that fitted in the T6 seat. The fittings to the base looked identical too.

is It possible to swap the single front passenger seat to a double so making 3 seats in the front ?
it’s a 6.1 kombi. Would like to make it 6 seats
cheers andy

There‘s a bigger airbag for the double seat models apparently. So your front passengers would not be fully protected.

I'm interested in doing this swap. From captains seat to double bench. I know about the airbag situation but what about brackets for the actual seats? Are they different and if so, what needs to be done to fit a bench in place of the seat? Thanks

I want to remove my single seat to a double, does anyone have a link to the right floor brackets I will need? The mechanic is sorting if I need a different airbag or not, I've to sort the seat & brackets, I've seen a few seats on eBay in the same fabric as mine. I’ve a 2019 T30 edition.

I can’t help with the brackets (just bolts I think though), but bear in mind your single seat is worth a lot more than a double seat.

As Pete said, I am fairly sure the same bolts can be used for both double and single front seats.
You’ll have two holes on show (and a depression in the rubber mat / carpet that’ll take ages to fade out) which can be covered with plugs. Or you can replace the rubber floor mat / carpet.
