The airbag unit is held in the underside of the dash by four nuts onto four studs that are mounted vertical, if you remove the upper glovebox/cubby hole then you can see the front two nuts and the yellow airbag connector on the underside but the rear ones will be much more difficult for access
I think the issue will be if the airbag will drop out of the dash with the four nuts removed or if it will foul all the stuff below it and need the dash removing to get the airbag out (which is what I suspect you would need to do)
