Poor T6 Headlights - replacement options

I have incredibly poor headlights on my T6, I can hardly see when driving down rural roads in the dark. I went to a VW specialist who has suggested changing the bulbs for Osram LEDriving XTR H4 Cool White 6000K bulbs. However I have had several conversations since about LED bulbs and the fact that if you fit LED bulbs your insurance will become null and void and also that there is an upcoming government paper on the use of LED bulbs in vehicles to stop them being used. An alternative has been suggested - Xenon150 H7 12v/55W PX26d, would I be better getting these fitted instead?

There are plenty of threads on here about changing the headlights for OEM H7 versions or one of the several aftermarket headlights options. Please use the search function to see what has been said countless times before.

There are many comprehensive threads covering this so have a search and all your answers will be there. In sum:

Upgrade existing bulbs. LED dipped beam in your existing headlights are illegal and an MOT fail - your choice. Or something like Osram 220 or Phillips +200 halogen.

Upgrade the headlights - secondhand H7 units from a Caravelle are a big step up for about £100-150 or new aftermarket such as THQ (£500-900 depending on spec).

The pros and cons and how tos are all here.

Thank you for your response. I am a complete novice when it comes to mechanical/electrical requirements for my T6 and so your response is very much appreciated. I have read a few threads but they get a little technical and I am just looking for a straight honest simple answer, so your response is very helpful. Thank you.

Many of us (including me) run Osram Night Breaker - they definiely make a difference if you don't want to change the headlights.

H7 conversion is fine for dip beam, Lazer lights in the grille turn highbeam into an apocalyptic death ray.
