Pop Top Canvas Repair

My hilo had the same holes the day I picked it up. Went back to the fitter. Hilo then sent me a document about their fabric manufacture and how the holes are from the needle used. The canvas needs to get wet 5 or 6 times for the thread to swell permently and close the holes. Still only been wet once a year later so they are still there.

@DaveyB All sorted still?

I've been to look at one today, I was very impressed with both the roof and the fitter. Apparently they are altering the tie down knob things so that they sit flush in the headlining which is great for me as I'm 6ft 7" and was worried about hitting my head on the knobs.

The installer said they are a pain to fit as they come in kit form and take 3 days, whereas for instance the Austops he can fit in a day as they come preassembled.

But overall it's a quality product and you can see how the roof has been evolving over the years to where it is now.

Hoping to get it fitted in 6 weeks. :cool:

I was told that the front knobs would be hidden under the sun visors - was this the case on the van that you viewed?

Funnily enough my fitter said similar, but showed me that he had then started asssembling them on huge trestles in his workshop, so they could be lifted and fitted on to the van once made up. He said this had cut the fit time drastically.

I take it you’re going for the scenic canvas and polished hinges?
I’m sure you have, but if you haven’t, have a look at how @Deaky has finished his soffits - looks brilliant.

It appears to be ok @Insert Coin. Just been away over the weekend for another sailing thing with the kids.
The Mrs saw something on Facebook Fromm hilo relating to changing the fixing system. I haven’t seen it personally but I am envisaging something similar to the system on the lowlife, which equally is hidden under the sun visor.
She also said there had been a lot of questions on the post asking about changing the knobs on the existing roofs to this new system. Can’t see it in all honesty as the stays in the underside of the fibreglass roof would have to be cut off and moved forward, plus there is then the issue of where the bolt hole passes up through the frame.

The roof I viewed was an older model, but yes the new fixings are recessed behind the visors.
Yes to polished hinges and pano roof. :thumbsup:
