Positioning of rear dashcam camera T6.1

I've just purchased Auto Vox pro mirror with built in dashcam and reverse dashcam camera, the size of the reverse cam (photo attached) could fit in the same location of factory reverse cam.

Would this be ideal position? The panel the factory reverse camera fits, is it plastic or part of the tailgate sheet metal? I was thinking I could drill a small hole for cable. My T6.1 is a tailgate.

Or is there another suitable position?

Feedback and photo's please.

Yes, my recommend would be in the factory reverse camera position, so you would need to drill the tailgate - The fiddly bit is getting the wiring through the tailgate, but it is doable.

Thanks for your response. I've tapped that area where the factory reverse camera is. It is metal isn't it? Just don't feel it. They would be okay side by side? Thanks

Yes it's metal, we are actually doing one at the minute - We are deleting the factory camera, and then setting up the dash cam to work as dash cam and reverse camera, on a 3d printed bracket. If you choose to run both, just make sure there is no interference, between the cameras.

Here are a couple of pics with the factory camera removed

This is interesting. It makes sense. I'm concerned when it's raining the lens isn't dripping with rain water. Or fogged up due to bad weather conditions. Alternatively inside behind rear glass where the rear wiper would clean that bit of window camera looks out of.
I would be interested to see the final installation of your method.

Have you made your new 3D bracket yet? I'm struggling with where to place my Auto vox cube size rear dashcam camera.

I have replaced the factory rear view mirror and looks good although I've not wired it in yet. The cube rear camera really would be better located where the factory rear view camera is.
