Power-Latching sliding-door problems

My tailgate is fine it’s the side loader :slow rofl:

I’m going to take the hit on this as it’s only a year old under warranty but I dont want them plugging the van in really.

tbh guys theres a theme here...and its after we have done all the sound deadening and insulation....the doors are now twice as heavy and not as factory intended.
mine is a bit all over... but its smart and knows if doors been left open ages... and if you have had power off and allsorts of silliness...
also i had to be careful of insulation etc around side door...near the door mechanism...as at one stage it wasnt happy.

also that module should be on that arch with both screws..cant see the angle or position affecting a damn thing though tbh.

clean connections check you get the position...on closing just right...?
i see it as a jazzy add on ....and if it plays silly...bugger it...just close it..
since sound deadening and faffing at the back my tailgate now feels funny in its closing position...

i think its more us thats faffed..???

ps apologies for my northern twang..let me know if my wording is wrong..

faffing = messed with... sorry.

Actually you’re right there. It is a jazzy add on and if it fails, it fails. My doors however aren’t deadened or insulated. Just standard trim covered in Alcantara.

actually your right thinking on...if its playing up am i right in thinking the door wont shut properly? stays slightly ajar...?
mines sometimes has been daft but seems to have just shut like a norm van door... cant remember tbh

Mine either works all ‘jazzy’ or just normally. So if I just lower the tailgate softly to close and let go from an inch or so away. It will either grab it and close with the motor or just clonk shut. But it never stays ajar.

That part number shows a electric sliding door control module.. is that the same one as the power latching? Sorry if I’m being stupid here..
No - not stupido
Mmmmm.... not sure now re part number.
But from my searches, I would be pretty confident that everyone suggested that was the right module though
I have paperwork from Vw yesterday but it doesn't give any part numbers.

And to those folk who say it's not a problem if it doesn't work - I disagree, as I paid me monies as an optional extra and I paid for a 5 year warranty. I want it to work as it should and Vw should sort it FOC.
So there...

i'm similar i think but its changed a bit due to the new extra weight of the tailgate with all the soundproofing and insulation plus...the new caravelle trim..
sometimes im a little bit away and im swearing at it getting it to "grab it"...

then you take it in to vw, get it back with more issues..ie damage...my golf went in to jct 600 3 times for damage from their prev work..
i have a dead foglight on the t6...id rather buy a new one at £40 and fit myself...better than a loss of a day (work) and hassle and further upset..
but i'm fully with you on that things should be right... im worst one for it tbh...just that no one seems to care on the other side..ie techs..vdub..others...

7E0959243E for the module
Power latching is the small rectangular box that takes 1 plug with 8 pins
The electric door control module has a very similar part number but is much larger and has four connection plugs

Thanks for clearing this up @Pauly - much appreciated

After having the Power Module for the power latching replaced on Saturday AM & replacing the big NS side panel back on with hidden clips Saturday PM, reloading the van with all the camping gear I had removed, I thought all was well...
I pulled the sliding near side door handle and it whirred and opened with assistance, I slid it closed and again, it whirred with assistance pulling the door back in tight. :)
Although, not a daily driver, we had been into & out of it most nights, working every time - all was good.

But... this AM, all was not good as it failed to whirr & assist!!
Grrrrrrrrrr

Rang JCT600 Sheffield, and its now booked back in for mid October.
I videoed the above not working, but Vw HQ will (apparently) not accept this, as I failed to get the registration number & mileage into the same video.
Vw suggest I may be videoing another vehicle, but asking for my van to be repaired.
You couldn't make it up... :speechless:

i'd go ape....this is why i just sort stuff myself... it isnt worth the stress level.

Great customer service! I know I have far too much time on my hands and I love dealing with the people at VW so much that I’ll do anything to get an opportunity to get the van repaired! Insane

I think there could actually be a relationship between sound deadening or camper trim etc affecting the positioning of the control module itself. I remember that when I retro-fitted my sliding door soft close module, I had to install it in the void between the wheel arch and the door, screwed on to one of the steel bits of the van. I had weird faults to start with, which confused me a lot until I suddenly realised that it was a grounding issue between the control module and the van. The control module is grounded through the physical connection to the steel support it's attached to, so if it's been moved or knocked as part of trim installation etc, I believe that could cause a similar issue.

It was a good three years ago or so now since I fitted it, so I'm afraid this is all a slightly hazy memory but it could be what's causing some of these issues?

In my case, it was the paintwork on the steel strut preventing a reliable ground connection, once I scraped off a small bit of paint where the bolt went in it worked fine.

This sounds interesting. Any chance you could take a photo of exactly where on the door you're referring to? Thanks.

Hi Pauly - would you be able to post VW's exact description of the two parts along with their corresponding part numbers please? I've searched online using your above reference but can't find them. My 2018 T6 Kombi (still under warranty) has just had three days in the service department and, whilst they've mercifully seen the problem for themselves, they've now said they need more time with it because "VW Technical have suggested it might be a problem with the wiring loom". Thanks.

Maybe you should give them @Pauly’s details. He sorted my loom and so far so good ;)

Sorry, it’s covered by a load of trim now. It’s not on the door itself though, it’s where the control module is between the rear wheel arch and the door. I assume it’s in the same place on a factory install, mine was retrofitted.
