Looking for recommendations for heavy-duty tent pegs for my drive-away awning please.

I'm thinking of the screw-in type (to resist lifting out in high winds, rather than for use on really hard ground), but I don't want to carry around a drill, so I'm considering using a ratchet socket wrench if that's a feasible option.

TIA

Some good ideas over here,.....

.

The screw in trampoline fixings are best for soft ground but not pegs as such.

The screw pegs work well when smashed in with a hammer.... But might need twisting out.

I use the screw in one's all the time on hard ground with a small makita impact driver just to make life easy.
I could use rock pegs but would need a club hammer to bash them in but opted for the easy option.
so either small drill or club hammer in van. google translate Southerners club hammer Northerners lump hammer

Never heard of a club hammer before! #Northerner

Whilst in Skye, my good lady wife was overly generous with a fellow camper in a huge Berghaus poled tent, he had used the nasty set the tent was supplied with. 40+ mph winds and she gave away a box of these which did the trick for him. I've just bought another box, they have never let us down, never pulled out without permission.
I'm very pleased they are still available, just had a new box delivered.

+1 for these if you want a bang in peg

If I go half a mile south I fall in the sea, so definitely a Southerner. I have a Civil Engineering background and it has ALWAYS been a lump hammer.

Just saying...

I have used rebar pegs for large marques in the past. need hammering in but they wont move!

If you’re going to do it, do it right. We use a few strategically placed 30 cm rebar pegs along with a few of the [IMHO] lesser pegs as recommended by Bargy and all are driven in with a lump hammer. The rebar ones might take a bit of wellie to get them in the ground but once they’re in, they ain’t going anywhere until it’s time to break camp. Also, you would have to try very hard to bend one - I’ve never managed it.

I'm thinking rebar pegs maybe a tad OTT for a small air awning.

Maybe sometimes but you should always have them in reserve anyway.

@Bav Just remembered if its hard to bang in could be a nightmare to get out
That's why I use the screw in ones
Screw in
Screw out
I keep a pair of mole grips handy for removing rock pegs. Clamp them on and then a slight twist as you pull them out.
Makes it so much easier.
