@DXX @DaveD @JOG I think this is fair comment from a new member of the forum. His question was targeted specifically at those who might have long term experience of a Pendle map on the 102 Euro 6, which seemed a reasonable request to understand real world experiences and in some way mitigate the potential risk. It's clear from many of the posts from some of you that you're experienced engineers and a lot of what you say carries real value, but a new member making an honest request for some real world feedback didn't need that reply.

The first line is relevant advice, but I don't think it needed the sarcastic (maybe tongue in cheek, but I don't think so) reply about Rolls Royce engines on passenger aircraft. There really is no relevance to the question that was being asked and the consequences of one failing and possibly (note that I've said possibly) resulting in the death of hundreds of passengers really doesn't reflect the consequences of a damaged gearbox/clutch/turbo or whichever other potentially delicate part may be affected by the remap.

For what it's worth @Langers , get in touch with Pendle if you can, keep asking for real world experiences of his maps and you might get some answers that help you decide one way or the other. If you go to the right place for a Pendle map, or Pendle HQ and use the rolling road, the map will at least be tailored to your vehicle, rather than a generic map downloaded from the company server like a Revo one would be.

I should add that I'm not affiliated with either Revo or Pendle, but a bespoke map, albeit one probably derived from base generic settings, must be a better option than a generic one. From what I've read/discussed/researched, Pendle can be a tricky individual to deal with at times, but it does seem he takes a sensible approach to his remapping.

Stick with this forum, it's a great place to pick up friendly advice and you'll learn an awful lot here.
Thanks for this the reason I was asking on here was to get unbiased info.

Chris - I’m not buying into your narrative.

I will allow others defend their posts as I will defend my own.

Yes, you can tailor a mapping for the machine, but you can’t tailor the mapping for the driving style the machine is subjected to. I have previously posed the question why a £multi-billion corporation like VW don’t offer mapping via their dealer network, yet never received a satisfactory response.

The analogy of tinkering with the Rolls Royce product was actually quite apt. The use of “Imagine” in that analogy indicates the tongue-in-cheek aspect.

For the hyper-sensitive, I must stress that creating and deploying a chaff burst from the tinfoil trays found in the galley of said imaginary plane is actually a joke of mine. Watching re-runs of “The A-Team” demonstrates how to actually do it, honest!!!

Technically VW do offer a form of oem mapping, hence exactly the same engine being available in different power outputs.

People have been tuning engines for as long as I can remember, when I was a lad it was carburettors and air/fuel mixture, better plugs and air filters etc

Aftermarket mappers don’t need to worry about meeting type approval regulations, they are able to offer a level of tuning that’s not necessarily available to manufacturers.

Hi, I am tagging on to this thread I have a 102 Euro6 T6 and read a lot of scaremongering on the gearbox of these, I emailed REVO and they said there issue was with the turbo being weak? which is why they no longer offer this model, Are there any long term users of the Pendle remap and can you offer any advice/issues
Hi @Langers I’m not sure if you’ve seen this YouTube video from Pendle Performance, but I found this useful to understand the turbo issues….

I’ve had a Pendle remap on my 102 for almost two years now with no issues at all.

If you watch his YouTube videos you’ll see that Martin at Pendle Performance is a straight talking, no bullshit sort of bloke who obviously knows his stuff.

Thanks for all your info/help, I watched both videos above I hadn't seen the second one that's really informative. Seems a straight up and down kind of guy, I'll be calling him later on.

Interstingly the first air craft countermeasures (Chaff) were pieces of tin foil dropped from a hole in the bottom of the aircraft, they've advance a bit then to keep pace with radar (and other systems) development.

Pendle remapped my 102 when it was on 10k and still in warrenty!

3 years later 70k and all is fine,
I even had warrenty work done after the remap was carried out.
Vw didn’t even comment on it

What was it mapped to and how did it affect your insurance. Hate getting an @r5e fecking from them buggers!

Unsure what martin done to it tbh .

Upped it to within safe parimeters is what he said.

Insurance company wasn't interested either

Hi I have had my 2017 102 mapped last weekend and I’m getting a judder through the gears 3rd,4th,5th at about 1500/2000rpm

Took it back to the company who mapped it and he said it maybe the flywheel.
My good friend who specialises in Subaru’s and race cars seems to think it’s more turbo issue.
I’m in too minds to set it back to standard or ask them to drop the map settings down to stop the judder.

Any help or comments will be much appreciated

Could be too much torque for the 5 speed gearbox. Is it a pendle, revo or some other map?
