Removing rear heater / AC unit from Shuttle

Right, you’re well equipped then! Definitely not my area of expertise.
you will need to remove them anyway, just get a gun with a socket on it, tbh i haven't even looked yet, some plastic covers will need removed but i think it will be pretty straight forward for anyone to do, it will help fund your conversion and you will get to know the underside:)

I’ve already done mine. The issue is access:
- Eight bolts are above the diesel tank, so that needs dropping.
- Heat shield obscures quite a few. Most of the time you can unbolt it, but in a few places you can’t because of an unusual bolt from top down.
- front row behind driver, there are four above the exhaust mid box / heat shield which are particularly annoying to get at.
- the rest are straight forward.

Hi,
Mine is an A/C unit so needs a pro to take care of the gases and blank things off. I’ve not managed to find someone yet.

you can loop pipe with fluid in it underneath the van, the pipes at bulkhead lookeasy, i have been shown how to do it but system needs emptied then refilled afterwards, i will try to post some pictures soon.

Did you manage to remove your rear ac? Im looking to retrofit rear ac in my shuttle and would be interested in the parts if youve still got them? @Duggers83

Do you mean this unit? Its only plumbed into the engine coolant circuit and a few wires. No air con. I can post more pics if needed. I posted recently that some of the inner metal panels have bits cut out to fit the heater.

Does anyone know how to get the interior trim off that covers this unit? I think one of the control arms on mine has gone faulty so want to get inside to have a look. I have tugged at it and tried with a trim tool but it seems pretty secure. I don’t want to damage it, but do I just need to pull harder at it?

I used brute force on mine but broke some of the clips - if removing again I’d get one of these and try and release the clips from the top edge working down.

The clips have an open and closed position and they need a ‘wedge’ inserted to get to the open position. Once the panel was off I used two trim tools to reset the clips (the tool above will do it!). These are the clips:-

Great, thanks for that. They are the same trim panel clips as the front door cards, now I know what’s behind there a good sharp tug should do it. I might order some spare clips anyway....

How'd you get on Mb1612? Have you managed to retrofit A/C?
I'd like to do the same with my Kombi. Had rear A/C in my old Mitsubishi Delica and it was a godsend with a van full of mates in the middle of summer.
If anyone has the full system to get rid of, with controls, wiring, and plumbing to boot, I'd be keen on having it. Don't know how easy it'll be to fit. I'm a Transporter newby.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi I have one of these in my 2016 Caravelle and it’s not blowing hot or not that I can control, the controls are digital electronic in the head lining, the directional seems to work. I think one of the motors on the box is faulty. Did you remove your one? If you have do you still have it?
Cheers

I’ve removed and in great condition but haven’t tried very hard to sell yet. Sounds like I’m about two weeks ahead of you! Listed the seats of here. Will be adding to eBay when I get a moment. Definitely need to make it a priority as they’re taking up loads of space in my garage!
I have a fault with my unit in 2016 Caravelle, it blows cold and hot occasionally? The digital control in the headline seems to work fine, directional and if I put it on low it blasts out the air, on the Caravelle apparently it is also ducted to delist the rear side windows, I think a faulty motor on the box is faulty - what did you do with your heater box (was it working ok)

No, still in the van and used!

I have the parts I need but haven't got round to fitting it yet. Will let you know....

Just waking this thread up. I want to keep the HVAC in my shuttle but just want to make the unit sit a little higher against the chassis using rivnuts (So I can simply put some flooring underneath it and insulate behind). There's obviously two bolts into the chassis but am I right in thinking there is one through the floor as well? If so how do you get to it? Do you have to take the casing off the unit of remove the heat shield from underneath (or both)?

Hi I cannot see that the original question was ever answered? I have a 2017 T6 Shuttle and need to take out the rear aircon to make room for the camper conversion. Has anyone managed to have it done? Any advice would be gratefully received. I have made the initial phone calls with the local (Southampton) specialists and even spoke to Breeze VW but have not been able to get any further. My shuttle is stripped out with only the front seat in so the delay is becoming very frustrating can anyone please help.

It can be done but you need a proper A/C specialist to cap it off and re gas it to the correct level. I've heard differing reports ranging from hundreds of quid to a grand plus to do this...I kept mine in, quite a handy addition but needed to do some work with the wiring loom (extended and shortening some cables) coming from under the drivers seat so I could relocate the control panel in the rear furniture. The fact I had self made furniture aided this mind. Hope this helps..
