Removing wheelchair ramp / cassette lift

I've booked it in to get taken off by a local garage tomorrow. I'll be asking them to scrap it as I don't have room to store it, and it weighs like 200kg so can't remove it or manuve it by myself.

(I'm in Edinburgh so I can ask them to hold it for your collection if you're nearby/would like it?)

Good info on the fuel tank thanks!
I’m in Auchterarder, I’d be very keen for it if it all possible.

They’re like hens teeth and they’re very hard to find so it would be doing me a huge favour. As you say though they’re extremely heavy so I’ll have to have a think about how to get it here.

I’ll DM you :)

Contact a company called paisley freight.
Not sure about the lift but they picked up 4 alloys with tyres from England and dropped them off to me in Dundee for £50.
Worth the ask.

Got a big chunk of the work done today!

Firstly you'll need to take the plastic undertrays off to access everything, then it's time to follow and strip all the wires...

There was a wire running from the ramp up under the passenger seat, under the carpet, and the along the underside of the dash, to a red bulb on the dash (which was met with a second wire that was coming out the back of the OB2)

There was a wire running down the B pillar from an aftermarket switch that checked if the door was closed, it ran down the inside of the pillar under the van and then up under the the passenger seat to meet the other wires. (Had to remove the gas filler cap section due to zip ties) but you could just leave this switch in place to cover the holes and leave the wire going up the B pillar.

There we're 2 wires (one think one thing) running from the positive side of the battery, the thick one to an aftermarket fuse next to the battery. They then ran down through the engine bay to the ramp.

There was a wire coming from the ramp up under the passenger seat to a detachable connector that was mounted to the rear seat base cover. (Other side of the connector is where the controller is attached.) You'll need a de-pin tool if you want to remove it without cutting wires)

I'm not planning on re-using or selling anything, so I've finished the day by just cutting all wires at the point they come out the ramp, then put all the plastic covers back. So essentially I now just have a big metal rectangle bolted via 4 bolts to the bottom of the van.

It's apparently weighs 200kg, so I'm likely going to try to pay a garage to take the last 4 bolts out and dispose of it for me (as I did all the work on a friend's drive and can't just dump the ramp there and walk off!)

Hope that helps someone, I'll update further once the metal box comes off.
Hi, we are looking to remove our k90 from a 2015 t5.1 caravelle, was it just held in by the four bolts? Is the cassette lift inclusive of the hydraulics? After disconnecting the wires is it just bolted in place? Thank you for any help or suggestions

Hi, if/when you do remove it, please can I have the remote control box & wire off it? I’ll happily pay for shipping.
They eventually need bits swapping out and instead of paying mega bucks for a brand new one it would be a massive help to have one to borrow the innards from!

Yes just four bolts. Hydraulics we're all built into the ramp yes. Ideally you would fish the 4 nuts out of the frame rail afterwards as well, which is a little fiddly but no big deal.

The plastic under panels can also be re-added in place of the ramp when it's gone. 2 on the drivers side and 3 on the passenger side (passenger side need slight cutting to fit round the aftermarket fuel tank you're left with.) I can give you part numbers if you need them.

Once removed the modifications you'll be left with are... A different fuel tank (that sounds like it has a slightly reduced capacity) If you want to refit underbody plastics, they will require slight trimming around the fuel tank. 4 holes in the frame rail, which will be covered by the missing underbody plastic's (and can be filled with rubber plugs). From the manual I also believe the exhaust was modified and was relocated further back. This means if there was a spare wheel it'll be gone, or if you wanted to retrofit one I don't think you'll be able too. (However most vans are now lowered anyway so spares can't be accessed/used and most people tend to run with the air/gunk puncture repair kits)

I may have a go at reverting to the original fuel tank and exhaust to return to full fuel capacity and a spare tyre at some point in the future. (Mainly as I find the process interesting!) But currently it doesn't bother me and I have no plans too.

It’s the fuel tank that’s the issue, well the sender/ float, it’s stuck or failed on full so currently using the trip to gauge fuel level! Need to drop the lift to get to the tank, garage won’t touch it, also have seen that there maybe a hatch under the passenger seat to access the fuel pump? …..

Not sure about the hatch... Would be easy to find out, it's only 4 bolts to get the seat off the seat base, and 4 bolts to get the seat base off the floor. To be honest all I remember is a small round rubber bung that had a hole in with all the wires coming through. But maybe if you removed the carpet properly there's a hatch somewhere. (You'd probably best searching for images of bare floor)

Thank you

I just had a look out of interest, not the best clear view/I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. But I don't see anything that resembles a hatch? (That is a 6 not a 5.1, not sure how different they are)

Would be very interested to hear how you end up resolving the situation though, could be helpful information in case I or someone else on here ever comes across the same issue.
