Renogy 100Ah Lifepo4 V BLUETTI EB70

@eirej yes, and no.

The victron temp sensor ( blue) works on the Smart Shunt & The BMV712. (and others)

BUT,

Only the BMV712 has the relay output

The Smartshunt will generate alarms via VRM ( if online ) or local on the APP when in BT range.

re low temps and Lithium's. . .

ALL lifepo4 batterys can be used down to -20degC - no problem.

its only CHARGING below 0degC that is an issue,

Renogy has this covered in the BMS as it will BLOCK incoming current below 0degc and release the lockout above 5degC.

so no need for a low temp disconnect on a modern Lifepo4 with a decent BMS. ( all the Renogys have the feature )

they do this in the BMS as they now all have duel bank of MOSFETS, one bank for incoming current, and one bank for outgoing current.

The BMS can switch either bank on/off as per the firmware BMS programming.

in the Renogy case, it will block Input when too cold,

and block output when too hot etc etc etc

.

here is an example BMS board showing the two banks of MOSFETS for power in / out

Ahh legend, yes thanks for the info.

I am gonna check if firmware is possible with rj45 and then basically that'll be my mind made up I think. As I can't identify why I would need bluetooth control over BMS in my head (again, noob). I am leaning towards a 'smart' battery and a BMV712. I know this brings my total up by like 150 pounds or more but I get double the life and a the BMV712 also has Bluetooth functionality. Switch out loads via relay around 15% maybe to preserve their life a bit?

yes Renogy SMART version is FW updateable via USB/RS485 adapter ( i have one )

fwiw . . . when i asked Renogy about FW update on W/BT version via the APP ( as no external port)

they said no, not at min, but possibly in future.

saying that the Renogy Lifepo4 have been around for a couple of years now, so as you say most bugs have been addressed.

Awh perfect, thanks again for the spot on info!
I'm sure all of the line-up is great and has their own unique advantages.
Regarding warranty being only 3 years on the Bluetooth version. The 'Smart' version's warranty is not a straight warranty, it's 'prorated', whereas the 'Bluetooth' is a straight 3 year manufacturing and materials warranty. So arguably, the 3 year one is better!

It's hard to say which battery is 'better'. I guess it comes down to whether prism cells are better than pouches or not? Though the fact that they're claiming double the lifespan for the 'smart' battery seems be persuading me to the pouch option here.

Another consideration is that the newer one is probably more future proof.. if I want to get another battery in 3 years time to parallel up with mine, the 'smart' version may be discontinued by then, and I suspect it may not be wise to parallel the two different types.
