Retrofit double-seat

So with do vehicles with a double seat have a different air bag set up , as that’s not going to be an easy mod !

Am new to transporters so trying to learn here - I have a 3 seat ‘bench’ style on the back - could I swap this for a shuttle double in the back ?

When I was looking one of the dealers was happy to swap a double for a single and I distinctly remember him saying there was work on the airbag.

I needed 6 seats and ended up buying a factory 9 seat Kombi (3rd row of seats and windows in the back). SWMBO didnt like the double seat as she suffers with a bad back so that was changed for a matching single seat - net cost to change was £450 fitting myself. Single replacing a double no air bag issues.

Kombi’s come with two types of second row seats - a bench seat like yours with 4 floor brackets or a double and a single seat with 8 floor brackets. If you wanted to swap to a 2/1 combination 2 bracket holes would be redundant. You’d be able to fit your triple seat in the back but would need seat belts.

The shuttle has 3 individual seats in the second row with 12 floor brackets, the location of which is the same as the bench or 2/1 seat. If you wanted to fit 3 shuttle seats you’d just need to add 8 new brackets. I have a shuttle middle seat for the back row if we need more luggage capacity.

I ‘think’ only the bench seat with 4 fixings will go in row 3 (or a single shuttle seat)

Hope that helps.

Regards
Ian

Hi and thanks for all the replies - It’s helping me figure out what to do. I don’t want to mess with the airbag set up and the comfort factor seems to be a recurring theme with single vs double front - think will stick with single passenger up front - and look to get a double for the rear - assuming this will work - we are a a family of 3 plus dog - who also needs a seat - this will give most options for space - so the thread title should change to where can I get a double rear passenger in Simora ! - cheers

Did you say you have a 3 seat bench seat on row 2? Do you need to loose one of those seats?

What might be the best route would be to get a kombi 2 & 1 seat installed and just store the single seat (they actually work as a seat just sitting on the floor unlike the bench seat). Having the three seats will help resale. The 2&1 are more ma

I’ll post up some pics of mine later so you can see the difference.

Aren't all the kombi rear seats singles now?
But mine didn't so I changed out the rear triple bench and put in two singles , obviously needing 4 more floor brackets. it means I can still fit units down the side and have 6 seats when needed for holdays with visiting family, I have a r/r bed at the back

Yes Ian - row 2 is a 3 seat bench - a 2 + 1 kombi kit sounds more useful - will this just click on or is it a more complicated install ?

Here are some pics of mine. The ‘post its’ show the redundant brackets from the bench seat if you went for a 2/1 kombi seat.

@The Ham makes a good point - a middle (using existing brackets) and right (n/s) shuttle seat (new brackets) would give you what you want albeit the shuttle uses different fabric range.

It would need more brackets installing. The ones near the passenger side sliding door need the fuel / adblue tank dropping. If you send me a private message with your phone number happy to chat through the options. I bought all the bits to convert a van but ended up buying a 9 seater!!

New on the forum - Just bought 19 plate T6 - want to buy a double passenger seat for front - I’d thought about going to VW - but open to ideas - can anyone suggest a good alternative UK support ? Thanks
We are trying to find a single front for our t32 we have the double passenger seat? We will buy the single off you or arrange a swap we are in Surrey so may need to be a hermes delivery

Hi thanks for contacting- will pass as I’ve decided to stick with my single passenger set up in the front - going to address the seating in the back instead
