Reversing camera not working following battery disconnection

Hi I bought a T6.1 campervan last September that came with a reversing camera. The van had to go to the garage and in the course of the work being done they had to disconnect the battery. When I got the van back the reversing camera now doesn't seem to be working and I stead I get a grey fuzzy screen. I took it to my local garage to see what the problem was and they said I needed a new camera. Before I fork out for a VW reversing camera and I just wanted to check that nothing else could be done.

Welcome to the T6 Forum madaboutdriftwood > I an not help specifically but a problem I had persistently and intermittently with a reversing camera 2019 Caravelle exec was never addressed by VW Main dealer. Sometimes it worked at other not no particular pattern long and short periods not working. I found an really good Independent VAG Specialist and when it was in for something else I asked him to have a look. Well it has been working ever since without the slightest hint of a problem! I guess it may have been a switching problem can not recall what he said it was.

Well I am not an expert and can not offer detailed fixes but I think rear cam operation is not always smooth for everyone.

Assuming it’s OEM or equivalent.
The reversing camera has 3 wires +12V, reverse, GND on one connector + the video signal coax on a Fakra connector.
If any of the 3 wires were not present then the camera wouldn’t operate. It would display a message saying camera unavailable when you select reverse. I had the message appear intermittently because I had a dodgy +12V (now resolved).
As you get a fuzzy image then the culprit will either be the video signal coax or the camera itself.
