Revs dropping and van stalls randomly

Hello, first post here.

We have a T6 that seems to have an Intermittent issue with the revs dying and then increasing again on idle and quite often it'll stall completely.

This is 68 plate 150bhp T6.

I disabled start stop as I thought that this may be causing it but that made no difference.

Even when trying to pull away from a junction it's almost as if you have to give the van some beans to get it to move anywhere.

The van is not mapped But seems to go through phases of having this issue.

I videod the issue today whilst driving slowly down a private road, however I can't upload it here as it looks like videos are not supported.

The van is in to be looked at next week, but I'm keen to know of anyone has seen similar issues and of so what the resolution was.

One final point to add is that after having this issue when I turned the van off, it sou ded like the van was trying to do a regen as I could here the fans going like crazy.

I can send this video to someone if anyone may be able to offer some assistance on this issue.

Thanks.

You can't post videos directly.

But you can post a link to your cloud storage or YouTube etc.

Have you got a code scanner to see if codes are stored?

No code scanner I'm afraid, I'll look to upload them to YT and post the url here.
Thanks.

Without diagnostic equipment, you will be very limited on what you can do, as it could be anything of an awful lot of things! Fault codes, and reading live data from the measuring blocks is the only real way forward on these very complex engines.
One thing that does immediately flag up, is fuel rail pressure, when the pressure regulator, pressure sensor, or pump quantity adjuster fail, you get exactly these symptoms. Normally it's an easy check with VCDS, and will very quickly rule it out, or show more investigation is required.

Hi did you get to the bottom of this issue? Seems very similar to what I am experiencing now, thanks.

Yes, the issue with our T6 was apparently due to the EGR valve not being connected, that's what the garage said, and since they did whatever they did, it's been running great.
Hope this helps.

Ok Thankyou for the update I will inspect this for being loose or any leaks

I have a 2017 t6 150. I have a similar problem with my engine. Driving in 1st-2nd gear from pulling off say from traffic lights when engine is hot once or twice in the day the engine plutter loss of power for a brief second. Then this Saturday it did the same so dip clutch rev up engine seemed ok lift clutch did the same then died all together, coasting into the bus lane. Turn ignition off restart engine and rest of the day it was fine. Sofar VW Van centre has changed fuel pressure regulator. The complete EGR system at great expense. All four glow plugs. But there is nothing showing up when they connect there laptop to the van. So far it's cost me 4.5k and van is still no better.

I bought a new cancelled order 2019 199 T6 Caravelle 4Motion then Covid struck seemingly the vehicle joke. Suddenly and without warning the vehicle would stall at traffic lights roundabouts and almost anywhere once stopped. tried releasing fuel cap and that sort of thing. Only had it a short time but COVID meant lack of miles until between lock in periods. It went back to main dealers meaning dropping it at a very awkward city. try as they might it was returned eventually the same stalling for no reason. I had to anticipate every eventuality at approaching junctions and with experience avoided stopping at junctions but slow approach dawdling taking extreme care on approach and so on. The main dealers eventually designated a recovery service and a few guts would turn up and take the vehicle away on several occasions. I recall on one approach to a junction in the country an awkward minor road to a main road slightly up hill with lights at a bridge crossing that sure took some doing. I failed at one attempt and had to free wheel back deserted roads. Vehicle restarted but could not crawl so had t wait an eternity to learn lights and traffic and eventually made it. Any way it was with main dealers for a little while after the chief mechanic or what ever turned up. They where having direct conversions with VW Germany to solve the problem and appeared to be taking things very seriously. It was with them a little while then triumphantly they returned it too me and it was completely fixed.
It never happened again I tried to find what the problem might have been but they where a little evasive ut seem confident it was fixed on this final occasion. So i have no idea but it may be a main dealer thing or someone like mimi

Good luck
