Roof seal indentations, cause?

Following on from my roof paint issue when I do take the van back to the converters I’d like them to take a look at the roof seal (picture attached) Any thoughts on what’s causing this? I’m assuming the indentation is caused by the tailgate hinges but don’t understand why. One side is worse than the other?

What part of the roof do they close down on?

It closes on the rear of the roof, the seal seems to be sitting on the van tailgate hinges. There is nothing there that could be caught when the roof closes.

Could the hinges be pushing into the rubber when the tailgate is open because for some reason the seal is in the wrong place although I don’t know why it would have moved? The van is 2 years old.

How about a picture with the whole lot closed so we can see exactly how/where it sits?

Clearly it sits atop some bracket, protrusion or bodywork irregularity, it's just a case of what.

Minor differences in the indentations is likely down to the nature of the hinge system on the pop top - hardly a mechanism of surgical precision, but it can't be as it needs to allow the body to flex beneath it when closed - so provided there are no leaks it is almost certainly nothing of concern.

There we go.

So we know what is causing the indentations (I have similar on mine where it sits over the mounts for the awning.)

We know why they aren't exactly identical.

If its not leaking I really wouldn't be worrying.

Thank you! It’s not leaking as far as I know. The van is going back to the converter in January for a paint issue on the roof so if the seal needed attention that would have been a good time to mention it to them……but as it doesn’t, I won’t!!
