Rubber gaskets above barn doors?

T6.1, do not want to drill any holes in the roof. I see a few rubber gaskets along the rain gutter above the barn doors (where a tailgate would hinge I guess). These look ideal for cable routing from inside to the roof racks above for lighting, solar panel etc.. Is that what these gaskets are intended for? How have you utilised these to pass cables through, poke a hole? use a cable gland on the gasket to prevent water ingress?
