Running In

Must be still running mine in at 7000+miles then, hardly ever go above 4000rpm
There's not much point really - the 204 does peak for bhp nearish the red line, the other engines drop off quite dramatically.

8000 was the "magic" mileage in the T5.1s - that's when they seemed to suddenly feel quicker and be better on fuel. So you're not even there yet...!

I don't think diesels ever truly stop running in/loosening- my last 4 or 5 cars have all seemingly got more economical throughout their time with me (generally 50-80k miles between changes). My A5 3.0tdi had 78k when I changed it for the T6. When it was new, range would show approx 540 miles when brimmed- when I sold it, it was around 700 miles projected range.
Don't think I'll see this on the T6 somehow although to be fair, I'm getting around 530/550 miles between fill ups (takes 60 litres to brim from 10 miles left showing on range)

In my time with cars , bikes and vans from tuned to factory engines a bit of mechanical sympathy goes a long way to an engine running sweet/fast and longevity .

As i'm sure you guys no, treat her gently , work her up steady , then give it the big un!!!!!

A lot more economical than me (pre LCI) 335d then! That was low 30s mpg. But it went like merde off a shovel.

Mine 30 000 and I even change the oil twice. It now goes much better and pull like a bull.
Do not forget to check air filter because mine was stuck to the up, I change it and the car goes up ...

The problem I have is that I don't have the patience to run things in. I can seen where everyone is coming from on both sides but right or wrongly my pedal has been firm against that floor from delivery.

Always been the same with a new van, spank the nuts of it from day one and seems to drive better and be more responsive later on

I have read this thread from start to finish and it made me laugh! Anyone who is driving a van at around 4000rpm or above on a regular basis in any gear is a bit worrying! If anyone does then they may need to consider getting a louder exhaust or lower their stereo so they can hear the van screaming for next gear! I don't think it's healthy to drive any vehicle in that way, unless you are racing. For those of you driving carefully well done, it shows you care about the longevity of your VW.
I had a GTi for speed, didn't cross my mind to race my van. Don't get me wrong having a bit of power to get you out of trouble or away from the lights can be good but if you want real speed then you would surely buy a fast car?!

The van makes power to 4200rpm so it well within its limits. I got just under 150k out off my t5.1 before it was written off. No issues with the engine.

Forget it's a van for a second. The new ea288 engine is used across the whole vag range so it fine too use the engines full capabilities and not worry about reliability. I certainly won't worry.
