Underseat wiring and swivel seats

Not sure to be honest, I think the question is if they are saying no because something won’t physically fit or because it not classed as safe or airbag deploying with seat not facing forward ??

When I made @DaveyB lead up I did order extra plugs and crimps so I do have another 300mm lead made up
Hi Paul. They were talking safety. What do.you reckon about a non airbag bench seat? worried about implications of Waringstown, electric's etc? Any thoughts when you have 5. Thanks

Swapping for a non airbag version would cause you an error fault on the dash every time you turn the ignition on (unless VCDS can actually code the airbag out). You can connect some resistors together and feed them into the airbag plug to stop the error.
Many thanks @DaveyB for such a quick answer.
J have sk much to learn I feel like an infant .... but I am learning ... just everything is so complicated compared with my old Freelander ... but it will be worth it... cheers

No, it’s no different than connecting the original plugs together. They are designed to pull apart to enable you to take the seat out.
I’d take a photo for you but I don’t get the van back till a week tomorrow.
As I will be sitting on my hands for a while on this old share photo when u can ... many thanks Paul

I am no mechanic that’s for sure, just picked bits and bobs up myself as i’ve muddled along over the past year and half with the van.

No probs, as soon as it comes back i’ll put some pictures up. I’ll be ripping all the seats out in order to re-line it all and re-insulate it.

I am new on the forum and have been looking at ways to resolve the same problem - swivelling a double passenger seat with airbag. I have read about disconnecting (with use of a resistor) but would rather extend the airbag wiring harness and connect / disconnect when driving (with seat facing forward obviously). Thoughts on this please and if anyone can help me with the wiring extension. Thanks!

YES IT CAN BE DONE. HERE IS HOW.
1. Airbag wire is extended.
2. I have a connector that you undo, swivel the seat and turn the airbag off on the side by pax door.
3. When you are ready to move on - reconnect the Connector. Switch airbag on.
4. Fyi if you get it wrong you get a warning light on the dashboard that will need resetting.

I have a kiravan double seat and this works a treat. Will try and load photos.

Just finish off a Campervan company did it for me... and said it was a pain in the arse to do. It took them 2.5 hours to fit the swivel plate and do the wiring. But we love it and it has been in place for 2 years!!!

Fantastic, thanks Bluey, great stuff! Any chance you can point me in the direction of the company that did it for you. Cheers!

From memory I used Custom Campers near Market Harborough. They were not interested in doing anymore as they said it was a bitch to do and had only quoted an hours work. I did pay for 1.5hours ... but they lost put by an hour of labour! Cheers Paul

Thanks Bluey! I have been in touch with the Custom Campers team and unfortunately they won’t do it as you suggested.

Does anyone have a wiring extension or is able to make me one I can buy?

Hi, did any of you have any issues with fault lights on your dashboard following the removal of your double seat (possibly single too)?
I unplugged the electrical connections under the seat to remove it to get the split charger and swivel in, connected them back straight away but now have abs, traction control and brake fault lights on and all sorts of warnings screaming at me :(
Help

Hi,

I'm late to this party but have gone through similar issues. I bought the swivels from Kiravan, and had to call mid installation to enquire about the passenger seat. They sent me a video which shows the disconnection and stowage of the cables and connectors under the seat. I followed these instructions and then had the faulty airbag come up ever since.

This is mid original installation of the swivel plate. U used trauma sheers to cut the carpet and insulation of the cabin carpet to get to the wiring, roughly doubling the 'dood' in the carpet, towards the handbrake. There is a channel which once everything is arranged carefully, fits in the cables and large fuse box (the large black box in the foreground).

I drove around on holiday with the seats in place and finally got a set of connectors in the post and installed the cables yesterday.

The Kiravan double swivel had a gap at the sides, so the extension comes out very easily. There are two sets of plugs, to extend the yellow connector. I originally thought it was a double, not a triple, hence two connectors. I have glued then together now. This is the side of the passenger seat next to the handbrake. The black gaffer take is to tidy up the loose cable.

I plan to visit my service garage, or a friend who has a VCDS to turn the fault warning off, and then only swivel the seat with the ignition off. It is a chame the RIB seat swivel has a simple bolt in the middle and not a circular hole like the single seats, but I guess the price is already high. The old mains cable fits well.

I had to carefully remove the cloth wrap from the loom to allow enough wiring to poke the yellow connector out of the front carpet and out where the rear carpet abuts to the front cabin carpet.

To connect I first:

Twisted then soldered the bare copper wires.
Next I Crimped the brass connectors to the wires.
Then I heated the connector again with the soldering iron to ensure the connector was bonded to the wires.
Finally popping the connectors into the PVC into place, after double checking the wiring connectivity.

The van has white, brown and green and had I had access to Maplin or the lab at work I'd have used the same colours. I used an old mains extension cable, and had brown - brown, white to yellow and green to blue, but it doesn't matter which connect to which so long as both connect the same end wires.

Success! I took my Shuttle to a local friend who has VCDS and he cleared the fault.
Thanks to those who reported that I should not switch on the ignition with the cable disconnected, I'll be careful only to switch on the ignition with the connectors connected in future.

I am trying to fit a double passenger swivel base. I have read loads of posts on this but still not clear on a couple of things. Ithis is in relation to the cables in the seat base. I am happy to tuck the multi coloured connectors under the floor but I have quite a few fuses and relays under there. Do I just pull those across into the drivers seat base? Not sure what they are all for other than cig lighter.

Drivers seat base will have leisure battery etc. Under there.

This is on a 2013 t5.1. I have a towbar fitted but was aftermarket and not with dedicated loom.

Thanks

An absolute newbie here. I'd like to install a double swivel seat and have just got our new VW T28. Looking under the passenger seat, there is quite a lot of wiring.
- Two cables go to each seat belt and two other cables go under the seats so I presume those detect weight on the seats to compare to whether the seat belts are used or not. I would have to disconnect all of these if I install the swivel seat and leave them disconnected. Will there be issues with alarms on the vehicle computer??

- There is also a fuse box mounted under the seat with just one fuse (I have no idea what it is for - there is no airbag or seat heating). Can a fuse box be unmounted and go into the channel underneath the swivel seat? It would be a hassle changing the fuse of course but I wonder if there would be room for all the wiring under the seat.

- Where do you get a wiring diagram for your vehicle? There is nothing in the vehicle book.

See photos below. First one with fuse box on left of centre

Second with more electrical blocks. I'd love to know what these are doing!!

There are several videos on you tube showing how to unclips these and hide under the flooring. PITA though should a fuse ever blow.

I am not actually too worried about how to disconnect them. My questions were will I have problems if I leave the seat belt monitors permanently disconnected as those leads are not compatible with the swivel seat and if the channel underneath the swivel seat would be large enough to store the fuse block shown in the first photo plus the bulky connectors shown in the second photo
