Show Us Your Motorbikes

(Ducati scrambler?) in its natural habitat .

Even if it’s not a Ducati it’s great

I haven’t done trails for donkeys years.
Yep Desert sled , it’s the most fun bike I have had in years , and I’ve had over 30 bikes .
midd Wales and Shropshire full of single track mountain roads . I sold my Guzzi Lemans racer and bought the Sled as Shropshire country roads are not made for A 1000 cc guzzi with 40 mm pumper carbs

Two bikes will fit just fine (minus mirrors) but I need a proper way to secure/mount. Any recommendations? (The scaffold plank is my ramp!!).

Hiya, sorry not replied sooner but have not been on the forum for a while. I bought a pair of the rear feet that are fitted to the VW seats (the bits with the release catch mechanism) and had a local fabricator make up some arms that could be attached to the wheel chock. These 'feet' have been bolted to the arms and now sit in the std VW seat mounts in the floor. Works really well. Tried it on a recent trip up to Northumberland in the van and the bike was solid as a rock. Couple of pics attached. Let me know if you need any more info. The pics are from the test fitting. I have since given the arms a few coats of paint from a rattle can (smoothrite black satin finish) which is the third pic.
The last pic is the part I got off e-Bay: (USED VW TRANSPORTER T5 T6 KOMBI SEAT LOCK CATCH COMPLETE WITH LOCATING FOOT)

Very neat

I went heavy duty and a winch.

Nice job, I like that.

I designed my Crafter campervan specifically to carry a motorbike as well and it’s set up for a portable winch which I had planned to use with a cordless control to haul the bike in when I’m sat on it. It’s got six Unwin rails secreted around the rear so it’s easy to find a fixing.

As it turned out I can walk a bike up reasonably easily. I use two ramps, one for the bike and one for me.

I’d bought a bump stop thingy but it was quite a substantial thing so I use a purpose made webbing strap “chock” to secure the front wheel, it goes away in a bag.

This is absolutely brilliant. It's the only design I've seen so far that would give me the comfort/confidence to stick my bike in the van. I'm guessing it costs a few quid to put together though (winch, chock, materials and fabrication)

I guess you also need a leisure battery to power the winch? Or somehow hook it up to the main battery while the engine is running?

Cheers, I`m an engineer so I tend to go a bit "belt and braces approach". Beauty of the winch is a controlled slow speed loading but more importantly getting the bike out, the winch stops it rolling away. Winch is remote controlled. I wired a direct fused feed to the battery with Anderson connectors. That way I can connect other 12 Volt devices (fridge) if I want to.

1974 Ducati 750 Sport, only made for three years. Totally original spec, I’m over the moon.
Brian, have you (or anyone else for that matter) used Ray Petty? I see he’s not on the dealer network and want to keep my full Duc service history, but have been told that a stamp in the book from him is as good as a main dealer if not better..

Here you go, yep he’s a top guy, I use him for everything Ducati.

Feel free to mention me to him.

What Ducati have you Ads?

Cheers mate - it’s always good to hear first hand reviews.

I bought a 2017 SuperSport S that, for a reflection in what was a great price, is due the Desmo service.
Ray was recommended by a bloke I bought a paddock stand from.

He’s quoted a price similar to a main-dealer so I’m just working out what would look better in the book.. his stamp or theirs.

Personally I’d go with Ray. (Or other well known Indy) A dealer just wants to get them through the process. ray wants a long term relationship.

His reputation is harder won than a dealers. Besides either he or George will do the work

Cheers mate. Yeah I’ll go with him. Thanks for the contact info - that’s appreciated.

Just to bring the bike thread down to earth, here's my commuter to keep the miles off the van. A Suzuki BurgerVan 400. My second one, the first having been stolen from under me in Birmingham 3 years ago. Very comfortable with feet extended forwards, nippy off the lights, enough storage under the seat for several small children! Bus lanes in Brum can be used by bikers, what would be over an hours commute in a car is less than half an hour. Quirky, but I'll have another shortly.
