Side Bar Fitting

Hi, I have recently bought side bars for my T6 and want to get them fitted, can anyone recommend someone in or around the Greater Manchester area who could do this? I have asked a couple of local garages and even a camper van retailer, but none of them are interested and are making out it's not worth it and could be complicated??? I don't know much about these things, so any help would be appreciated,

Cheers

Which bars have you got? I fitted genuine ones in about an hour on the drive as it was a relatively simple job if you are slightly practical.

Hi, Not sure which bars but possibly van x, the reason being I bought them off Customychrome.com at camper jam, they've sent me a link to a van x youtube video on fitting them so I presume that's the make. I'm fairly practical, did you have to jack the van up to access the sills?

Cheers

Not with standard suspension as there was more than enough room to get under lying on my back. The most fiddly bit I found was dropping the plastic under tray to locate the fixing holes then trimming it to fit back round the brackets.

It's just a few bolts and loosening the under body tray..

Our factory fitted bars didn't have the plastic cut either... they just bolted it back on bending around the new brackets.

Cheers,

I'll have a look, see if I think it's within my capabilities. Might have to be at this rate!
Have a go. I'm only just practical and did mine in 2hrs. Dead easy after the 1st side is on.
Don't worry about any comments you read about the plastic underbody being cut etc. Some say it shouldn't be cut as it "protects" the underbody from mud and salt....mine was so full of mud it obviously wasn't doing anything to protect, only hold in.

Do VW cut the trim?
They did on my old van, and made a right mess of it! Didn’t bother putting them on the new van as they rusty and good old VW warranty said it was down to stone chips :(
Need to get them on the for sale section.

Did my in around 30 mins. Used leveling ramps to raise each side and dropped the under trays. Fitted the brackets. Check they're not to narrow or wide for the bars to fit. Then trimmed the undertrays to fit with a knife, they're quite thin/flex and then refitted them.

I fitted mine myself and must be the only person in the world that managed to shear one of the bolts

I had a right job getting a replacement bolt and was running around with one bar for a week until good old @BognorMotors came to my rescue

Easy job though lol
