Snow: fold Mirrors in or leave out?

In cold (snow/frost/freezing) weather is it best to leave the mirrors folded out?

I'm thinking that if they freeze & I start the van they're going to burn out a motor winding out.
My windows motors struggle too of a frosty morning even when defrosted.

I doubt you'd damage the motor, but ny gears are liable to be some kind of plastic and might not fare well if the load placed upon them was excessive.

Clean the window channels and lube with a suitable ungent such as Gummi Pflege.

Although I rarely pull my mirrors in, I have resorted on occasion to pull small plastic bags over the mirrors. It keeps the frost off. Can use rubber bands to hold them in place. That is the cheap option. A more expensive option is to buy a quality screen cover that comes with mirror covers. More expensive again a full cover. The latter is a bit of a pain but it ensures a warmer frost free vehicle from the start.

I have one of the cheaperwindscreen covers but mainly use it in summer to keep the van cool. I never knew there was one with "ear muffs" for the mirrors. My mirrors poke through the velcro holes. Do you have a link to one with mirror covers that fits the T6?

I have a screen cover with ear muffs it also covers the front door side windows. It has corner pockets to pull over the door corners to keep it taught. It is fairly robust and made of some sort of canvas possibly synthetic. I think that they may be available in various colours or even have humerus printed designs. Should be able to see them on the www usual places. The also afford good privacy when parked up. they are quite easy to put on compared to a full pullover cover. So the whole front window glasses and mirrors protected from frost all in one go and minimal effort.

Available with attached mirror ear muffs covers front door side windows also. Fairly easy to put on. Has little corner pockets to stretch over the corner of the front doors that holds the whole lot fairly tight and flap free.

Don't know what happened there, did not publish so wrote again only to find it printed on return.:)

i actually can not find my front canvas cover. i just thought that i would check to see the mirror covers as I see on line non had ear muffs. I have been using a full cover lately. So I will have to have a search tomorrow and see that i was not imagining things the ear about ear muffs. Ummmm, in any case it would be easy to run something up on a sewing machine I guess.

Can't say I've ever seen an external cab-window screen cover with mirror covers - would be interested in a link if you have one, @Kind of Blue.

This is one of the "ear muff" ones I can find https://amzn.eu/d/gJhfyTI not sure the ear bits would fit over the T6 mirrors though.

I suspect even a ham-fisted twonk like me could knock-up some mirror covers that are as effective as these - a modest amount of foil-backed bubble wrap, some glue/staples, a couple of lengths of elastic et voila!

Just found my Black Screen Cover in a back room under other things on a bed. I made a mistake it does not have ear warmers but Velcro tie for added fixation. Possibly folded mirrors might tuck inside but I have not tried that. Would be easy for a seamster to either add them or to make detachable or separate mirror warmers. i seem to have made a modification by adding thermal Silver Bubble wrap under the covers for additional insulation for camping.

I use silicone spray. I apply to plastic elements and seals of mirrors and seals of doors and windows. This method has been used by me for many years.
I also use silicone oil spray on door seals to dispel water and diminish the risks of freezing and jammed doors. Good idea about inference of mirrors and body.
