Sound-deadening & Carpet-lining wheel arches.

Hi,

My lining carpet has arrived from Mega Van Mats today, I've read the guide but I can't tell whether it is recommending to do the wheel arches as part of the one piece used for the side, or to do it with a separate piece.

Any suggestions?

I would say do it as a separate piece . . . . but haven't seen the instructions your referring too.

Start top at the B pillar and work towards the back, all in one piece, gently pulling and pushing into place

Thanks both.

Two opposite views there though!!

I'm going to give it a go tomorrow, I think I'll play it by ear, I'll have a go at one piece and bail out and switch to two if I need to.

On a related subject I'm going to have to take the rear seatbelt off to do it, @Dellmassive I've seen you posted the torque settings for re-installing the front seatbelt. Would you mind confirming the settings for the rear belt are the same?

're the carpet... I've only done my own vans so get some other opinions before you start..

And I'll dig out the seatbelt settings whennin back in the office.

I did mine all in one hit as @Absolut5 says,no joins anywhere. It was quite easy just took a while and heaps of cups of tea:thumbsup:

Hi guys, it's my first time carpeting the inside of a van. My local van conversion specialist advised that I shouldn't bother sound deadening my wheel arches and just carpet them instead, is this sound advice? Surely the clips and joints would be visable through the carpet if I dont. Please advise.

Thank you for replying however it's not really a question of how to apply carpet to the arch but more of a question to the preparation beforehand and if I should sound deaden them or not?

I added sound deadening. The wheel arches are probably less prone to vibrations and reverberations than the larger blank panels - however, all the video's I've watched, (from conversion 'specialists' and hobbyists) recommend sound deadening.
It still looks good too:thumbsup:

I too would recommend adding sound proofing, without it tyre noise from the rears is really noticeable.

Sound deadening to the rears is often said to be better outside. It leaves a better surface for the carpet to be stuck to.

I’ve just placed an order placed for sound-deadening materials from deadening.co.uk (BTW the T56MODS code still works for 10% off). I’m following the Coombe Vally Campers guide as per their YouTube video (2m Silent Coat followed by Dodo Thermal Liner).

My cunning plan is to get the sound-deadening done asap and then carpet line later once I’ve sorted a bunch of electrical/audio bits.

The area I expect most challenges with is the wheel arches. Any tips on how best to approach the curved arch shape, and on cutting/application to get a smooth finish?

Don't overthink it, you don't need 100% coverage to achieve the desired results. I did mine externally, i.e by removing the wheel arch liners to allow access, but others have done internally too or instead.

It’s worth doing the steel arch but far more noise reduction is achieved by doing the all four wheel arch liners - have a search on ‘sound deadening‘ on the Forum.
