Sportline wheels wearing already

Maybe I should had put "many" rather than "most"...
There were enough threads kicking around on various forums to make me stay away from diamond cut wheels as I want to leave them on all year round and have them look good for several years.
Anyone who bought the JK alloys a few years back will know all about diamond cut issues, mine were replaced and the second set went the way of the first, ended up getting them repainted my my local wheel speacialist they were so bad, gone now along with my T25.....

I had 2 diamond cut alloys replaced under warranty a few years back on a Touran - had them inspected by VW. All 4 were scabby, but two had no signs whatsoever of chipping or surface damage. Never had diamond cuts since. Even the wife points them out now and says "they'll look awlful this time next year !!"

Whilst cleaning my van this morning. I noticed my Sportline Wheels have odd yellow'ish marks all over them. I spoke to Tom at Bristol Camper Company and he said he has had another customer with the same problem. Apparently it's the lacquer reacting with road salts or something like this.

He said to call local VW centre as covered by 24mobth warranty.

I called mine this afternoon and they said to come in and they will send photos to VW. If it's a issue they will replace my wheels for new ones.

Anyone had this? Pics attached

Hi
I'm a newbie to the site and am getting to grips with it. Was extremely interested in this post as I have the same with my wheels. Van is 12 months old and so I took up problem with dealer who forwarded photos to VW. Came back with usual excuse "wheels exposed to outside elements (salt, dirt, grit) which can cause spider corrosion or lacquer peeling". Told me that if not happy to contact Customer Support which I did. They argue I do not have a case for replacement wheels as wheels subject to outside elements. Also said that they have not noticed a trend in problems with Sportline alloys. Told them I had seen problem highlighted on various forum groups, the reply I got was "we don't take notice of forum groups"". Any advice welcomed to take this further.

I had mine replaced by Bridgwater VW with no issues. Tell them to call that branch if they don't believe the forums. My contact was called Vicky.

Keep banging away at them. Of course the ******g wheels are exposed to the ******g outside elements.... they are on the outside of the vehicle!! They have to be fit for purpose..!!
That is the most lame excuse ever.

I tried to click the "like" button multiple times, I so agree. But there again, I do have a pathological hatred for VW(UK);), but love the vans:);

I had some VW diamond cuts replaced under warranty a few years back. Although there were a few chips on the wheels, several parts of the wheel were corroded with no surface damage at all. VW were happy with this and all were replaced without question. As others have said, keep up the pressure!

Mine replaced too .... keep at them , I understand diamond cuts can do this but 12 months is not fit for purpose! If it happens again to mine I will take them back and demand replacements grrr

I’m on the look for some Alloys and liked the look of the silver sportlines. Was almost set on buying some then I seen a few people commenting that they are having trouble with them blistering etc.
This still the case ? Isolated case or ??
Thanks

The early bi colours suffer with this (the ones with the stripe down the middle of the spoke) not sure how the other colours are faring up ?
I think at the end of the day any wheel that is diamond cut/lacquered is never going to last for many years

I’ve got the all black with the silver rim, had mine a year with no problems as yet

I have the black sportline with silver rims and the silver started cracking within six months. VW not interested. Wouldn't recommend.

I had the bi colour ones, white worm appeared about 14 months old thought they would of lasted longer than that! Good old VW warranty fobbed me off saying it was corrosion BS.
If it’s just the plain silver ones your after go for it’s the diamond cut ones that are troubled ;)
Ended up having mine powder coated all black so we will see how long they last hopefully a bit more the original ones!

Sounds silly but wonder if it matters where you live and what you do? As in surfing etc being near the salty stuff a lot?
