SPOTTED - 'Was it you?' thread

I'm new to being an owner of a Transporter, always liked them and love the care that is taken with the ones I've seen over the years.

Having my own now, a T6 from LV, I've had a few waves from like minded owners that appreciate a well kept vehicle.

So....

Was it you ?

A "purple T4?" I'm not sure exact models yet but looked older than a T5.
Coming towards Milngavie from Drymen near Loch Lomond, looked like it had a lot of love and modifications to it, lowered or air bags ? Thumbs up from me

I doubt many T4 owners will be on here mate, but i've noticed that the T4 guys seem to be more up for a wave than any other Transporter.
Also noticed that T5.1 owners are not as friendly as T5 owners towards T6. Pffft, we are all VW Transporter drivers

Just before we got our T6 campervan last Summer, we were at Seaford in East Sussex and there was a local meet for VW T25’s. They were a really friendly bunch right up until I mentioned we were getting a T6, at which point things got decidedly frosty (even my wife noticed from a distance - she had already got bored and wandered off!). This is my /our first VW, but I must admit that I did not expect to find all these different groups. These guys told me (and they seemed serious - though I admit that I am always a bit slow to twig when I am being wound up!) that you need to join the appropriate club (T4, T25, T5, etc), and there is little mixing between clubs! May be a ‘southern’ thing...

Good point about the T4 thing, I'm probably talking nonsense though, like I said I'm still not sure of the differences yet.

Just thought it was a good thread as a sticky ?

On my travels I see a few nice vans out there and wondered how many are on here.

So if they're that colour that's what sets the T model ? lol

What is a 5.1 then ?

T stands for type. Type 1, Splitty, Type 2 Bay window etc.

The T5.1 is a facelift version of the T5 and a huge improvement in my opinion.

Don't sweat it about the t25 guys. There used to be a bit of a divide between the air cooled and water cooled fraternities, beetles vs golfs. Haven't been to many VW shows/ meets in the last few years but did notice there was a lull in air cooled cars which seems to have opened the door to water cooled stuff. Just don't mention rat look!

Where’s the T25 on that list.

I always thought the splitties through to bay windows were all type 2, type 1 being the beetle, typre 25 being the "wedge" and type 3 being the variant/ notchback/ fast back jobbies.

They are all type 2's. It's a type 2 T1, type 2 T2 etc. The type 3 is the notch etc. A type 2 T3 is a Wedge/ T25, not sure on the reason it became known as T25 and T3. I think it may have been about the time they dropped the type 2 name and became Transporters

I think we're losing site of this thread.

I meant it as a thread to post sitings of a cool Transporter.

Walked up to mine in Glasgow earlier and caught a guy peering inside ! Nearly went all caveman on him and he's like no man it's cool, I'd love one of these......
