Starting my LB electrics

Never thought about that thanks. It’s all a bit new to me this LB electrics..
I know the lithium batteries are better but at the moment I need to try and keep to a budget

No need to worry too much about it. My van is six years old and still on it’s original 75Ah AGM factory leisure battery. Haven’t touched the hook up lead in the five years or so since installing the solar panel.

Lithium is nice, and vital if you want to run heavy loads (inverters, cookers, etc) for a weekend off hookup but, in the end, it’s only an energy store. Your ability to run off-grid for long periods is dictated by energy in vs energy out, which is why we can stay off-grid for weeks at a time with ‘only’ a 75Ah AGM using a decent solar panel and DC-DC and with no very power hungry devices.

With the Renogy dcc50s you can set the current limiter from 10-50A, so you can future proof your DC-DC charger.
Thanks again for all the advice. Great forum lots of helpful folk

Great info, so with this type of set-up can you only power lights , small heater , phone charger and such ??

Standard campervan setup, 40l compressor fridge probably the main load, electric tap, the usual array of lights and usb chargers and a diesel heater for when it’s cold.

Hi all
im trying to find out what size cable needs to be ran for the ignition signal for a dc dc charger ?
would 1mm be ok or does it need to be bigger
thanks

I'm just about to install one of these and I would expect to connect the negative cable to the DC-DC and leisure battery last, just as you would when connecting a battery.

However the instructions and video all seem to indicate connecting the negative cables first? Surly this introduces the risk of a short when connecting the positive?

Looking for an experts view on this please?

If you connect the negative, then run and connect all the positive cables, connecting the battery end last, then FINALLY fit the fuse (LB<>DCC50S), what's the risk?

The only risk then is touching the metal box you are working in while fitting the fuse.

Normally working on any battery you would connect the negative last, as everything metal is negative so it doesn’t matter if you touch it!
