Sterling b2v Pro Batt Ultra - AGM1 or AGM2 charging

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice as I cant seem to find it online, I have a LEOCH SLCA-12130 DT advanced AGM battery to fit into my Euro 5 T6 which has a Sterling 1230 B2B fitted.
As this had an open lead acid battery fitted before, I understand that I need to change the charging mode to match the new battery.

Looking at the horrid Sterling manual it seems I have two options, AGM1 and AGM2 but which should I choose?

AGM1 is assigned 13.0v
AGM2 is assigned 14.2v

I found the below information for this battery when setting up my solar controller.

  • over voltage disc 16
  • charge limit 15
  • over voltage reconnect 15
  • equal charge (off) .. Equalizing should only be done when the battery is showing symptoms of capacity loss or from inadvertent deep discharges. In the event equalization is necessary, make sure to go through the normal charge cycle. Once the battery is fully charged, begin equalizing.
  • boost 14.6 this is right for these batteries.
  • float 13.6 again this is ok.
  • boost recon 13.2
  • low recon 12.6
  • under voltage recon 12.2
  • under v warning 12
  • low v discon 11.1
  • discharge limit 10.6
  • equalize time 180
  • boost time 180

But what setting to use for the Sterling ? AGM1 or AGM2 ? Does anyone have any advice or guidance please?

What are Sterling saying that this voltage represents? Float charge voltage or what? Ideally, your Leoch will want an absorption voltage of 14.6 and a float voltage of 13.8

Hi and thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately, communications with their tech team is extremely slow, as in I have had no reply to the phone or email.
I was thinking that AGM1 is more closely aligned and cant hurt as an initial setting, better to go low and high ?

my solar was so easy to configure, I could go custom with the B2B but the two button interface is horrid.

Well yes, up to a point. If you are not charging the battery at a sufficient voltage then it will shorten its life and give poor service time. Does it not give the option to manually set voltages?

From a googled manual, AGM2 looks to be 14.6v/13.6v. This looks basically fine if you don't want to try and select a custom profile? AGM1 looks like 14.1v/13.4v from the manual which is really quite low for an AGM.
