Stop/Start error after pressing the button !

I’m doing mine on Friday, hoping it’s just corrosion stopping my van starting.

Did your’s just have one section with corrosion?

Has anyone had this message come up without any other symptoms? I'm getting this same error on the dash but with nothing showing up on Carista or when my local garage plug in VCDS.

Edit: Started after installation of a like-for-like new battery. Battery has been coded. No warning lights on the dash, just the text display when you start the engine or use the button to turn start/stop back on.

As odd as it sounds, the starter battery may have discharged below 80% whilst sat on the shelf.

Before you spend more money, I’d be inclined to give it a full charge and see if Stop/Start kicks in.

How long since you changed the battery? If it's only very recent then I'd let it have a few more charge cycles and see.

Thanks both. Did a full charge shortly after installation, but haven't done much driving in it since. Maybe I'll try just driving it for a bit and see what happens then.

Thanks all for your help. Tried charging the battery, but that didn’t resolve the issue. Had a bit of a visual inspection this morning and found a dodgy looking LIN cable as per a video on this forum. Will have to borrow a jack and axle stands so I can get underneath properly and solder in a new piece of cable. Hopefully that will solve the issue .View attachment 228657

What’s a LIN wire - not worked on a vehicle since the 1980’s but I’m having this very problem on my 2016 T6 start line. Any advice greatly received

Have a look the pictures above, you’ll see the yellow wire with the corrosion. Really common issue. Just solder in a new section at the break and seal accordingly.

LIN wire is just a term
Modern vehicles use LINbus (single wire) and CANbus (pair of wires) data to communicate between control modules etc

If you ever see someone reference lin or can it means the wire is carrying a signal as opposed to just straight power on/off etc
