SWB bed options.....need dog space!

Trying to settle on a 130cm wide bed option that when folded down allows enough space for the dog bed on the floor behind front seats.

What have dog owners got fitted in their SWB that means they're not having to share their bed space....or is that futile anyway

Looks like RIB is the best option but with things like Vulcan, does that space behind the front seats get used with the bed folded down?

Thanks

I have a thickly padded dog bed/cushion, about 1M x 1M. Fits fine behind the front seats with the RIB bed deployed. Doesn't stop the bugger sneaking into bed to cuddle me though.

We have a RIB bed and the dog (border collie) sleeps in a fleecy dog bed under the foot part when the bed is laid down. That way he’s not in the way if we have to get up in the night.

Thats what I was picturing with the RIB, guessing not practical in SWB with anything where the base board slides forward

Ours is SWB. We have cupboards under the seat when it’s in use as a seat

I do exactly this, it works really well, there's plenty of room for a medium sized dog under the rib bed foot and it's a convenient way not to take up valuable floor space. My dog seems to really like it.

One perk to having a pathetic cat sized dog. He sleeps curled up on the driver seat. He does tend to try his luck during the night and make a trip over to the bed. Depending on the time of year decides if he gets turfed out or not.

We have an electric RnR bed in our SWB and our old boy, sadly no longer with us, was quite happy to settle under the foot of our bed, and quite happy when the bedding 'came his way' during the night! We used our Crocs as deflectors for the diesel heater during the night so that he didn't get blasted with hot air. He was over 15 when we lost him, many layers of blankets under him and quite a thick carpet too, he didn't moan!

Has anyone got any photos of their 130cm/slimline kitchen setup please. Read a couple of people saying they have lost a lot of floor space with the fridge sticking out so therefore might be losing the very thing we're trying to gain most of....floorspace when folded out.

As an alternative I find myself going back to an L-Shaped layout. We dont intend spending that long away at a time so bed space is the priority with dog space under the foot end and some storage here and there. All cooking outside in either case

A lot of people jump for the standard rock n roll bed layout, because “that’s what everyone else has”. If you’re not carrying rear passengers and it’s just 2 + dog then the worlds your oyster really. Like you say, an L shape layout could work really well, or get a pop top and use that as your primary bed?
Or alternatively you could get one of those hammock beds that go across the front seats for a medium sized dog.

@Ninj43 I don't think the fridge it's self has to stick out further it because it has to accommodate the the sink and gas hob if you decided not to have these the fridge stays in the normal position
To get a wider bed I opted for a 112 rib slimline units at the rear and cushion infill making it 130 at head down to knees and 112 knees to feet ill see if I have a picture and post it

@Ninj43 you can see the in fill on the righthand side which gives the 130 for the top 2 sections of the Rib bed 20180930_111826.jpg20180930_111843.jpg

Do you have a double passenger seat up front, if so you can get a bracket which allows the seat to fold flat, depending on the size of you dog, that might work? That’s assuming they can jump up on to the back of the folded seat (lots of assumptions I know, but worth a mention).

It is a double, havent seen the bracket so I'll have a look at that, could be an option

Is this what you are thinking of? Vankraft

Then don’t bother fitting the van out get a full width bed … I had a full camper which got written off …. Now have a slide pod at the back and in winter run seven seats … other night slept in it with seats in

Yeh I'd considered full width but I will use the van for occasional business stuff though which rules that out on practicality.

There's also the consideration of resale, I can't help thinking the traditional layout is traditional for a reason and it's therefore going to appeal to a wider audience come resale

We have a RIB bed and room enough for two dogs on the floor. The larger lab sleeps behind the front seats and the slightly smaller rescue sleeps under the bed overhang (she loves having some sort of top cover so works well for her).
