Switching solar controller

Hi,

I want to change my current solar controller for a smart one. I currently have the one pictured:



I was looking to switch it to a Victron Smart MPPT controller. Is it just a straight swap? Which model of Victron would I need? I’m unsure of what wattage power panel I have and unsure how to check.

You need to know what power your current solar panel is. Got any photos ?

I did a similar swap to a Victron controller, purely because I wanted to see what was going on with an App.
I doubt it was worth the cost of the change, but hey, it’s my van

There’s a pic of the panel. I’m in the same boat, know it’s costly but I like to monitor things, graphs and data make me happy

They looks to be in the 50-100w range.

So I'd go for the Victron 75/15 smart Bluetooth unit

Awesome thanks I’ll get one on order and give it a go. I’m guessing the wires in my current unit with the light symbol just go in the load section on the new unit?

From looking at online wiring diagrams that is the load. I would have expected a thicker gauge of wire!

Ahh! I suppose it depends what the load is.
In that cast the Victron will be a straight swap.

@Chris_t6.1 Cover your solar panel to prevent any short circuits whilst you’re changing the controller and connect the battery terminals before the solar terminals.

Switched the unit on the weekend. It was fairly simple apart from the crimps from the old unit were slightly too big to go in the new unit so had to cut off and strip wires then re crimp. Space was fairly tight as it was in the rear wardrobe.

Just ordered the wire protector cover from eBay for belt and braces so nothing in the wardrobe can accidentally make contact with the terminals.

Doh didn’t take any but will do when i install the wire cover and post them!
