T5 - T6 tow bar..are they interchangeable?

Hi guys
I have a 2011 LWB 4Motion T5.1 van with Hayman Reece towbar. I wanted to transfer it to my 2016 LWB T6 van. Does anyone know if it will fit my new van please?

Yes it will fit. I would as a minimum replace all the nuts as they should be nylock nuts which shouldn’t be reused or better replace the bolts as well

Great…thanks very much. I had a Quick Look and it looks as though the bumper would need to come off to get better access to the bolts.

Remember if you remove the towbar you will need to refit the crash bar that was removed when the towbar was originally fitted as this supports the bumper

Definitely a bumper off job as there should be some support bars inside the chassis rails. As Pauly said you will need to find a crash bar that someone’s got going spare. If you become a VIP member on here you can post a wanted add, if not look on the likes of eBay, gumtree,etc for one as it’s needed as it gives significant protection to the body in the event of a crash as well as allow you to stand on the bumper with the foam infill that fits on top of the crash bar

Great..thanks very much for your advice. So in essence the towbar takes up the role of the crash bar and is positioned where the crash bar usually is? I’m not near the vans to check but in theory if the T6 has the crash bar I could swap that over to the T5 when I remove it from the T6 to install the towbar in place of it? Hope that makes sense.

Yes swap the crash bar from the new van and refit to the old

Electrics may be different depending on whether you have a dedicated kit or just a simple bypass relay .
