T6.1 Aux power outlets - switched?

Afternoon all

I have just fitted a dash cam to my T6.1 and plugged it into the 12 V outlet in the centre console, the one near the gear shifter and it stays on when I turn off the ignition and lock the van

I had ( possibly falsely ) that this would be switched with the ignition ? I am presently waiting 30 minutes to see if it turns off like a lot of cars do

To be fair the handbook does say that it is unswitched so I guess I know the answer to this already but it's a bit of a pain. Anyone have any ideas ?

I think the power under the passenger seat is switched ? Thats next on the list if this doesnt go off in 20 minutes !

Cheers. Ian

This was discussed here:
T6.1 Ignition live fuse

The search function is a usefull tool, you just need to try a few variations of the words sometimes!!
I had seen a number of posts but a few people had also mentioned the board under the seat and was hoping that this could be used also I will look into that solution now though Thanks for the info

It's not the board under the seat - there is (almost*) no ignition live there. For Dashcams you want to go for the fusebox in the middle of the dash, lots of thread around on this.

* if you have a factory fit second battery there will be a "charge" signal and if you have a factory fit towbar with 13 pin electrics with some coding you can make one of it's power feeds ignition switched. Neither are of any practical use for a dashcam.

Update

I have finished the job, it was a bit of a pain but I found a switched live on the fuse board to the side of the wheel ( thanks The Bear 78 for the tip ). As a few people have said no switched live under the seat, a bit of a pain as that was where I wanted to add some other things too There isnt a ground on the board that I can find but I managed to use a bolt with a large crimp ring so it is all working now. Why manufacturers dont think that people will add things I dont know !

VW are better than many with the Transporter given the varied specialist markets it's used in - you can order them with the provision from the factory to have auxiliary electrical system fitted.

Also the technical docs on fuse layout and the map of the official ground points are useful.
