T6.1 Full LED Plug and Play Headlights Now Available!

I’ve booked in with @The Van Cave to have a set fitted early/mid May to my T6.1.
Looking forward to being able to drive in the dark without constantly cursing how crap the lights are compared to my car.
Have been waiting for a proper alternative solution to the poor headlights, beyond retrofitting OEM LED’s, since I purchased the van. Wanted the factory LEDs when I ordered but it would of meant waiting 6 months longer for my camper.
Been informed that the LED projectors are from Morimoto.

That’s good news, Morimoto are excellent quality from what I’ve read.

Unfortunately I have had to edit my original post to increase the pricing on these headlights. The initial pricing from THQ was incorrect and has since been increased to £899.95 for the headlights themselves, so the fitted price has increased to £999.95.

These look really interesting. I can't get my head around legality though? I thought LED headlights had to have a self levelling system for road use? Self levelling rather than manual adjustment. Anyway eagerly awaiting reports of how these fare, and waiting for the T6 version. I enquired if they would be ready by this winter and there was no definite reassurance. :(
The light output is much better, even when compared to running the older version with LED bulbs.
You should do a night time shot from the cab to show beam throw?

I have asked this question everywhere however it is generally being ignored.

someone did post that if under 2000 lumens based on an old MOT advice note then not a fail etc.

On one of the videso there is a nighttime on / off etc clip

@archersam This is the MOT advice you refer to

I’ve emailed THQ this morning for clarification as to whether these new lights are uk road legal.
They don’t say otherwise on their website, so by selling them they should be otherwise they are on dodgy ground.
My understanding is they should be E marked too.
Hopefully I will get a positive response.

Getting technical but I believe that in order for THQ to sell them for fitment to road vehicles, they’d need to meet the requirements of VCA type approval (Regulation 10) and should carry an e (E) mark.
Unless Brexit changed that. Been out of the game a long time now.

Ok THQ have come back to me very quickly, so this should answer any concerns fully:

To quote:

Hi Ian,

These headlights are fully e marked and road legal in the UK.

Kind regards,

Charlie Lewis

I can totally understand why we want to swap out our terrible non LED lights, VW should be ashamed, but I’m also fed up of poorly fitted aftermarket headlights, bulbs, whether they are LED or not, blinding me at night, it’s seems I’m not alone as read recently the Government are going to have a look at the issue.
I’m not knocking these headlights, they look good and obviously give the driver a better view of the road, but drivers coming in the opposite direction should also be taken into consideration I think249A853B-6CDF-4943-B045-61357FD49E06.jpeg

I expect most problems come from using “off-road” bulbs rather than LED headlights per se.
If true LED headlights were found to be the problem, what on earth would the Government do?
Ban all modern cars?
The only way they could really address the issue is to legislate to stop the sale of “off road” aftermarket bulbs.
Can’t see them doing that either.
If local councils didn’t dim or turn off all the street lights due to lack of money from central government it might help with visibility.

Yes , certainly no quick fixes to sort the problem out, always seems to be a way around the MOT test, ie changing bulbs out on test day, we shall have to wait and see what the outcome will be, Maybe a curfew, only daylight driving allowed..
