T6 and iPhone X not playing nicely

Good point Nigel. Some times I have to through all that ritual too. Not sure on this head unit but if mines connected to my home WiFi it will obviously ignore the hot spot unless I manually select it. Best of luck

Sadly still not working even with your suggestions, it connects straight away to one of the office girls iPhone 7's. I even did a factory reset on the headunit, no luck.

Interestingly, the office girl can't connect to me either, so now I'm looking at a reset of the iPhone...

If you set up your x from a backup of the 7 then tru renaming the phone to something different.

Tried that, I reset my network settings, I'm holding back on resetting the whole phone as it's a 256gb and it's full of kids films and music that I'd have to put back on there again.

I called my phone provider, they do all my mobiles and landlines and they've suggested it's an issue with o2 not having hot spots enabled or something?

It definitely used to work on my 7 as I used the hotspot quite a few times when the BT internet connection went down.

We swapped recently from o2 directly to a local telecoms company, it looks like hotspot and visual voicemail didn't get provisioned on the account transfer.

The hotspot now works, I haven't been out to the van yet due to the apocalyptic weather conditions, but I suspect it will now connect.

Thanks for the assistance gents.

I never knew you could do this. I've always let the kids connect directly to my phone. Been out to van and its connected.
Once again this forum has proved to be a great source of helpful information.
One question, It asked me to connect to the car net portal. What is that and how do I get the code?

In-car wifi is the greatest invention since sliced bread, it keeps my kids quiet on long runs.

I'll get a Car Stick so they don't rinse my phone data, just waiting on a price from the VW dealer.

Register on the car net website and you can link to the van, instructions are on there

Thanks @Pauly.
Followed instructions, registered but Van won't except the code. As long as I can set up the hotspot I'm not really bothered about the rest. Unless there is some really cool features that i'll be missing out on. I'll try again tomorrow.

I dont really use it but it does open up a few options like planning routes and setting destinations on your home computer then beaming them to the van ready to drive away

Now that would be handy as I plan my week/trips on my laptop. I'm sure I'll get it to work, it does say if the van does not recognise the code to refresh the page so it must be a common problem.
Just need to test the wifi with the kids at the weekend as thats the feature I like the most.

All sounds like overly complicated stuff to me. My phone is my satnav, never ever used the screen in any of my cars despite having satnav. Find it much easier to see it on my screen mounted phone holder.

As for hotspots they are now a thing of the past as he has a mobile now.

The wifi connection worked when I got back in the van and tried it for the first time.

You have the choice of VW's own Discovery nav system or you can use Apple's version via Car Play. It will be interesting to see how much data I go through using Apple Music and Apple Maps.
