T6 DSG illuminated selector

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but this is something that has also 'irked' me since picking up our 2018 T6 with DSG back in April. It seems rather surprising to me that VW could not justify the costs of tooling a specific RHD part for the gear selector panel. Aaaaaanyway as others have suggested above, you do get used to it, and it fairly quickly becomes a moot point as you soon become 'automatic' at using the automatic selector.

I have however just noticed that Travelin-Lite sell a kit for the Tiguan gear selector, which has a gear indicator built into it. Apparently the shaft needs alteration but they don't specify exactly what on the ad. Has anyone here replaced their DSG selector with a Tiguan one?

As the Van as a side release button, and the tiguan a front release button, you need to rotate the plastic shaft inside the selector 90degrees, this is done by using heat, you'll find the guides on Youtube if you look.

Sorry for necroposting on this 6/4/3/2 year old thread.

These are interesting DSG things on Aliexpress that I've been looking at for months. Edited to add that the illustrated prices will have vat added at the checkout.

Has anyone here handled / seen / mooned over one of these?

If so, thoughts please

I am tempted to just take a punt on black / grey one with red illumination as I too, after 3 years of craning my head, am still irritated by the wrong side display.

My other car is a 2013 Skoda Superb II Combi with the display on the correct side of the DSG plate. I just need to know that I'm in Reverse, Neutral or Drive so I can avoid lurching in the wrong direction or revving in Neutral.

I am tempted to just take a punt on black / grey with red illumination as I too, after 3 years of craning my head, still irritated by the wrong side display. I will ask the sellers to confirm suitability for a T6 Multivan DSG (multivan seems to return more results than transporter or caravelle)

Thanks

David.

My worry is only about the quality.
I am more keen to get one illuminated gear knob off Tiguan/Golf and adapt it to the Van than buying cheap items off Ali express. None of the main Transporter accessories brands sell anything like this. For a reason I bet.

I know that.

I drive two vehicles where I glance down to the left when I want to know which gear it’s in. Typically when stopped for some reason - traffic lights, railway barriers, stationary traffic on a motorway. These are all places where I would pull the selector down from park, through reverse and then through neutral. 30 years ago I arrived at a junction and the car in front of me had stopped and his reversing lights blinked as he put it into park. I reversed back a few metres when he was getting ready to go before the lights changed as he put it into reverse.
He lurched backwards having confidently stamped on the peddle. There was no collision because I had mitigated his error.

Having been on the receiving end of that I always check what the gearbox is about to do by looking at the display down there when I am stationary and about to press the peddle decisively.

At that time looking at the dash display can add delays between me moving the selector and correcting the position if it’s not where I wanted it to be.

On the other hand, if I want to drop a gear and get around a platoon of slow traffic on the motorway I do look at the big display WHEN I’M DRIVING because I’m also watching my mirrors, the slower traffic, my speed and avoiding the Audi driver that wants to shoot past at 99MPH.
