T6 Front Step -led Replacement

Question about the step lights:

A couple of weeks ago I tried some on the van. First some 'circuit board' looking ones. Fuse blew immediately. After a bit of measuring I saw that there's a positive and a negative on each side, resulting in shorting from one side to the other.

Next I got those little white dash-style ones with two bent wires sticking out (similar to the picture on the first page of this thread). Tried to push those in, fuse blew immediately. Had a closer look, but they didn't seem to short anywhere....

Any ideas how this is possible?

Possibly needs a resistor otherwise the led will take the full current and blow

Hi
Having recently converted my interior roof mounted lights to LED lamps, I'm now looking to swap my front driver and passenger step lamps also to LED. These are the ones that have 4 separate warm white lamps currently installed. Does anyone know the lamp type so I can order some replacement LED lamps?

Thanks
G

Lamps installed - Happy!

I have a 2017 shuttle and recently replaced all of my interior bulbs to LED. All worked ok, without blowing fuses. If the bulb didn’t work I just turned them around as I’d read somewhere about the negative positive issue. Bought them all off fleaBay. Happy to post which one I bought if anyone interested?

I thought I’d post my rough notes - in case it helps anyone - I did buy white everywhere except red for map reading lights and blue for side steps. The shuttle has around 24 interior lights. All of mine fitted and worked - some posted from China (cheap) and others for convenience from the UK (but obviously from China). Let me know if you’d like any of the eBay links:

Interior of Shuttle (26 total):

Are they blue like the anti-heroin-injection lights you get in public toilets or warm like the OEM Cali interior LED lights (or at least like the ones in the Cali tailgate panel)?

More like anti-heroin-injection blue lighting around the steps - can’t see my varicose veins so easily

Great, sure that will help people. I bought mine from Travelinlite. Seemed a reasonable price for interior package or lamps. The front step lights from Ebay though.

Ordered other leds from ebay (following one of the links above), so hopefully they will work without adding extra resistors etc.

In the meanwhile had one of the leds of the front reading light literally falling apart. When taking it out it was HOT and in two pieces. Think it just melted apart. Anyone had this before?

At work again since a couple of weeks so a bit busy...

But today installed the step light LEDs that I ordered from ebay (the ones mentioned in one of the posts above).

Works perfect.

But for the map reading light still not a direct solution. Melted a second one as well. Was thinking of putting the one from the drivers side into the other socket to see if it's the socket, although not sure why it would melt there and not in the other one (if shorting the fuse would blow...)

Ok, here's a small update on the LED melting...

I attached two pictures, one from the LED and one from the socket (reading lamp in the front). The lamp is a T10 (bought from a car parts shop in town). I couldn't figure out why the brand new LED would overheat and eventually melt through. But after a bit of investigating I think I found out the reason.

If you look at the socket, and the connections, there's the + on the left, and the - on the right. But if you look at the LED, the + is at the top, and the - is at the bottom. So something goes wrong there. The only thing I don't get is that the LED gives light (and heats up of course), and the fuse doesn't burn.

For the step lights it was the same style of fault, but here every time immediately the fuse burnt.

So now I'm looking for other LEDS for the reading lights. Wonder if it's necessary to get CANBUS as the + is now connected to the AUX battery. (same for all the overheads (also the long ones) in fact, as a non CANBUS one uses way less power...

Grtz

In trying to change all me on a shuttle but we're do I start in removing the units and on the 2 rear units over the 2nd and 3rd row please

I watched this video... Gave me the confidence to prise / force a little bit further. Eventually you get the hang of it. Hopefully before you break anything

Hope it helps
