Hi everyone new user
Big breath
I have ended up with “you need a new engine” I am not at all mechanical
My Kombi has done 72k I’m the second owner not on the mainland take the van to France twice a year rest of mileage is on island circa 10k a year
Have had the van serviced regularly a new EGR type D fitted two years ago after light coming on also two replacement oil pressure sensors within 13 months of each other have been told turbo needs replacing likely damage from previous EGR and the engine is breathing likely due to EGR issues have also gone through a set of tyres front every year told that normal too
The van has always drunk oil like a rugby player on a night out have been told numerous times that is normal for both the van and the rugby player !
On a trip to the alps St Malo to Bourg and back 4 litre of oil used typically. On the peage the dpf light would come on after about 200k and the go off then come on again after 100k
Not a lot of choice when it come to specialised VW here main dealer is multi franchise or independents
Friend in the trade has found that there is a crated engine available as opposed to buy parts separately (goodwill by VW) only addition according to dealer would be turbos with surcharge refunded they have also advised new exhaust and dpf all for about 15k independent circa 13k but does not include exhaust or DPF
I am minded to bite the bullet and go dealer
Am resigned to new engine as this is a forever van
I m at a loss as the best way to go
is there warranty
should VW b contribute more
Is it a lottery that in 5 years I’m likely to be facing the same s’’’ show again?
Any advice from those that have faced the same bows and arrows but have come out the other side smiling appreciated
Cheers
