T6 Modding Angst?

Hi all,

Before I get into this, I will just point out that yes, I'm aware that there are many more important things going on in the world, but........

I never realised how stressful modding a T6 could be! When I ordered my Kombi (used 16 plate), I chose exactly the 20" wheels I wanted (after many, many hours searching and indecisiveness), I ordered exactly the leather interior I wanted (again, after many hours of indecisiveness), all the exterior plastics are gloss black, I had the rear rear interior insulated and carpet lined, THQ v2 headlights fitted and I had it lowered 50mm on H&R springs, side bars, front spoiler and rear spoiler. I knew that for me the colour had to be Indium Grey so that part was easy. I then sat back and waited for 4 weeks whilst it was all ordered and put together, safe in the knowledge that my dream T6 was going to be exactly what I wanted. I collected it on time and it is exactly what I ordered.

But.......

I've only had the van for a little over 3 weeks and already I've decided that I got it all wrong!!!

I've decided the wheels are no good, they're too big and I don't like the style. It's not low enough, the interior leather isn't the right colour or style, I don't think I like the rear spoiler either, or the colour of the side bars. The only thing I'm happy with is the van colour, the gloss black plastics, front spoiler and the carpet lined and spotlighted interior.

So, the bank balance is going to take another beating, changing the wheels, new suspension, leather re-trim etc. That's before I even get to the other planned mods like improving the ICE etc.

Do any of you on this forum also go through this? Is it going to continue like this, or is it actually possible to get to the "perfect" van, sit back and think, yeah, I'm happy now!!

Welcome to the club . . . . .

I think you will find it's a continuous project that never ends, you will constantly keep changing things as and when the wind changes and new ideas spring to mind.

I dont think anyone can say they got it right from the start....

Best thing to do is just get the van and enjoy it . . . . . Then start modding, bit by bit.

And be warned it I'll never end until your bank balance says so . . . .. so get saving.

.

Now start posting some pics of what you have now for us all to see.

.

If you are going to redo stuff then you may be better offering it here and seeing if anyone wants to buy/swap stuff with you

For the leather you may be better selling someone your seats on a swap basis then getting standard ones retrimmed ?

Someone may be looking to go the other way on wheels and swap smaller ones ?

Took me 3 different styles to get where I'm happy, and ironically the happy stage is where the least mods are, but on a positive note, I now know my perfect recipe for my look, and other than discrete changes, mine should always look along this line.

Hopefully this works, it's my first time trying a link to another thread. Here's a link to my van in another thread: Team Grey

Hi Pauly, interesting thought on the interior, I hadn't considered that as an idea, thanks.

@ChrisR welcome to the world of modding a T6.

You will now discover it takes even more of your time choosing wheels than it did before you bought it.
I bought a van I thought looked great, them when you change one bit realise it doesnt match some ot the other bits so they have to go also.

My significant other thinks there is a black hole in my wallet :/

Lovely van, lovely. I need to think very carefully about which direction I take next. I will run out of money, and my wife will run out of patience, pretty quickly if I chop and change too much.

There's always going to be compromises with modding your van, in my case I've got B14s but can't go any lower than a slightly atheletic camper look with my van as the under slung water tank is currently 75mm above the road surface let alone how close to the kerbs and divots of a camp site so that's one foot shot.
