T6 TSI Petrol am I mad?

Could never find a non Kombi lwb so had to order a new 204 dsg diesel unfortunately.
TSi would of been perfect for me as work local 11 months of the year. Grrrr

I have owned a T32 TSI for nearly a year now. It was a 150bhp manual but had it remapped at Pendle HQ its now 315bhp, on a long journey of 300 miles plus its averaged at 32mpg driving normal. Definitely love the TSI's and a bonus with them is that they don't sound like a bag of rattling spanners.

Once again, that is not the mpg you should expect if you buy one, that's some special driving. I average 10mpg less than that, mostly motorway miles

Tsi 150 manual Currently getting 18-20mpg driving like a saint might as well get it remapped with such poor figures!

I'm getting those numbers around town with a heavy foot and a heavy van (204 DSG remapped to 300bhp) so you may as well!

Unless there’s someone wrong with it I’ve only recently got it and must say it’s been a bit of shock even worse on fuel than I was expecting. It’s worse than my old focus ST I had a few years ago and I used to drive that, well like an st.

Is the servicing up to date, especially the air filter? I'd definitely go for a remap though, I've yet to hear of any issues with these engines remapped or otherwise and it certainly didn't make my mpg any worse even though there's rarely a day I don't use all the power.

I only get below 20 on short journeys where the motor barely has time to warm up or (interestingly) when my battery was flat (which I suspect is due to the drag from the alternator recharging). On long trips (usually 300 miles but I‘ve seen similar over 80 miles) I get mid to high 20’s.
That’s on a remapped 304 DSG running LPG, so the petrol mpg would be a few mpg better.

I ran a T6 TSI Revo stage 1 for a year. Loved it. Needs to run on super unleaded to get the best out of it. It was a fully specified kombi with 20’s and lowered so full weight with all the kit.

Used to go like stink and properly surprise cars.....frequently. Don’t even ask about MPG when driving properly - sub ten! . On a motorway run at 70, I would get high 20’s and for me that was about as good as it got. At 60 I’m sure you’d be above 30 but that’s tedious.

I’ve always run mapped cars/vans. As a comparison a mapped 204 4Motion BITDI would get the same mpg around town as the TSI. On a run only a few more mpg. Where it differed was when your were pushing it - the TSI just guzzled. A 2wd BITDI would be a bigger difference.

The TSI needs a map as the engine is really lacking torque in standard form. And I found the paddle steering wheel was a great upgrade, and used it all the time - whereas on a diesel I never use the paddles. I actually think the Diseasal engine is better suited to the Transporter, with its power delivery, but I have a few petrol cars to get my kicks from, so it’s not a priority for me. If I only had one vehicle and it was a van, it would be a TSi. AKS tuning have my old TSI and they are going big turbo - 500ps+

If you are looking for a vehicle for economy. This isn’t the one. But they are very quiet, refined, and smooth compared to the dieasal.

Residuals will be good as they are rare - id buy them for stock if I could find them.

And the engine is tried and tested in the GTI so high mileage will have zero issues.

Go for it you will love it.

HTH. If I can help in anyway just ask.
Hi there, Iwould like to ask your advice if you don’t mind. What milage would you expect on a 2019 T6 2.0 trend line blue motion converted van With 30k miles on it.Thanks hope you can help

I have a150bhp Tsi camper as I also mainly do short trips and was worried about the diesel emmission and dpf issues. I have had mine converted to lpg which reduces the fuel cost down to that of a diesel.
Also the petrol engine is so much quieter than the diesel.
Hi how much does a conversion cost. Thanks

Hi how much does a conversion cost . Thanks
The LPG conversion on mine was £2,640 in 2019 with an 84l tank in place of the spare wheel, and the LPG fill point is below the petrol filler, where the ad-blue is on diesel vans. The cheapest LPG I’ve seen recently is 73p (Morrisons) while some motorway service stations charge 99p. MPG is slightly lower but a few weeks ago my van did 25mpg between Munich & Rotterdam with the cruise set to 90 mph for most of the German Autobahns.
The only issue I have is that running on LPG exaggerates the hesitation problem I have with the Pendle remap on mine, which is barely noticeable on petrol.

My conversion cost was £2280 in 2019.

I also had the LPG fill point below the petrol filler, but found it awkward to attach the lpg pump. This is due to the fact the filler point is set back within the bodwork. LPG pumps are different to petrol pumps (they have to physically lock) I often struggled to make the connection. I got so frustrated and had so many issues that I ended up getting the filler point moved to under the rear bumper. It is now far easier to fill up.

Hmm. Mine doesn’t seem so bad. My only concern is those filler nozzles with the round, flat shield - I fear that they might strain the filler flap if I am not careful. So far I’ve had no problems, and I am happy with the set up.

Maybe my installer fitted the filler point further back behind the filler flap. I tried using an adapter which brought the filler point beyond the bodywork, though that was a pain as it had to be attached each time and also had its own issues.
