Morning

my new to me van 2018 t6 only had it a couple of days, this morning it wouldn’t start
Engine turned over and over on the 4th attempt just before giving up it just started.
Got to work started fine

no lights on dash etc

any advice welcome as going on holiday with it on Saturday

thanks in advance

Would that cause it not to fire up as the engine was turning over well ?
long time to start, not slow to turn over then?
Could be glow plugs.
Could be fuel, there is a lift pump in the tank that primes the high pressure pump on the engine. (Turn the ingition on an off a couple of times before you crank it)

Is it just when starting from cold and then it starts ok each time after that? Has it happened lots or just a one off so far?

It would be worth putting a code scanner on it to see what’s going on. You can pay a local garage to scan it for about £70 or buy Carista for about about £25 and check it yourself at home, it’s very easy.

Are you out of warranty? I appreciate you’re off on holiday but the dealer would be able to scan it FOC if you’re within.

it’s hard to say how frequent as I only got it Sunday and it was in for mot Monday.
This morning was the first time and also first cold ish start

I do have a cheep code reader but not sure it will tell me much as no lights on.

You won’t need lights on to tell you. Go for it and post your findings here

Possible fuel rail bleeding pressure.?

(Via injector or other) (so then needing additional time to build rail pressure b4 firing)

Similar symptom been reported after vans been sitting for say 3 weeks on summer holiday.... Extended crank or a no start. .....

After a few trys, engine starts fine..... Then good after that.

Would need vcds or other scan tool to read the rail pressure PID..

Keep an eye on it and see if you get a repeat issue.

I'm having issues with my 19 plate but only seems to be after a very short short journey or mainly after I've turned the engine on for a minute or 2 then off without driving. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi - I have the same issue did you get to the bottom of it? Thanks

Unfortunately not yet. I've had a month where its been fine for every journey but today on 5 start ups is been laboured. We have also noticed more that it happens after longer journeys so it's very confusing now and annoying. I've been told its possibly crank shaft censor. I have it booked in somewhere in 3 weeks time

Thanks - Let me know how you get on. Also trying to get mine looked at so will let you know if they find anything.

I had a similar issue with the van.
At the first start, it started somewhat ok but I had an old and weak battery, so I thought it was the battery.
If I did short journeys in the city, it would start fine almost every time but doing longer journeys it would start hard(er).
Finally I changed the battery but it would start the same way.
Now I changed the starter motor and starts fine, no hiccups.
