Tailgate Awning

This was the first thing I thought of. Great looking bit of kit but quite a bit more costly over the Reimo too.
Might get the Reimo ordered next month!
the only reason I bought it was as a bedroom for us when we take the grand kids away and to be on the safe side we always book a jumbo pitch on a C&CC site

Daft question but how do you switch the alarm off so it doesn't go off with the tailgate open all night?

If you have the factory fitted alarm there is a disable switch below the driver’s B pillar. Behind the seatbelt;

Ah that’s the same one I use for when I leave the dog in the van. Thought it was just a movement sensor?

It’s what we use when camping, as it would be the movement sensor setting off the alarm. We have a Reimo tailgate awning.

There again, maybe I’ve missed the point, (wouldn’t be the first time!) and hopefully someone else will happen along to explain….:confused:

more info needed does the tailgate awning require it to be open to support it and is the van empty at night or inhabited

Hi it’s fully open - and the van is inhabited with us moving between the van back and tent area

Nope. I see it as a temporary cost effective pop up solution to give a little extra space on short stay nights/days out. Wouldn't leave the tailgate open unattended, that would be silly. For longer stays I'd be using a Nordisk bell tent for sleeping/living. Mines a day van/Kombi with forty winks bed. Just need a little standing/changing room and a tailgate solution works
Do you have any photos of it fitted please?

That looks spot on thank you, I presume you don’t have a spoiler on the tailgate?

There is a VW spoiler on the tailgate. Makes the tent tighter and slightly out of shape, but workable.

Its a great, cost effective 'temporary' shelter for certain uses.

One thing to note is that there is a draft coming into the van even on the later version of the tent with built in groundsheet and bumper protector. It's like sleeping with the back door open, which you are, but the tent isn't fully draft proof. Its much more comfortable sleeping with the door shut in my insulated van than open for noise and drafts. Also found it near impossible to shut the tailgate with the tent pegged in. The inner coating of the tent grips the paint and I couldn't drop the tailgate without loosening all fixings first. Lastly, it wasn't a super windy day, but the slight movement of fabric marred the paint.

Following on from @CarreraRSR useful comments I would also add;

Ignore the initial Reimo installation instruction steps. See my post #8

Scroll through pictures of it on Reimo’s site re how it appears ‘baggy’ when fitted to lowered vans.

It could prove useful to leave up, with tailgate open, on really hot nights?

When it’s raining you’ll get water in every time a side door is opened.
We’ve recently bought a cheap Adventure Tarp with an idea to try fitting this over the top to stop this.
Bought ours from centre aisle offers in ALDI, but appears the same as below and others;

Really appreciate the honest replies. This isn’t for me, I never let someone lean on the van yet alone allow marring.

Also if the tailgate won’t close easily this won’t work how I want it to.
