Thinking of going A/T, sense check if you please?

I'm currently running 20", but am considering going to 17" with A/T tyres, probably Falken Wildpeak, as they seem to get pretty good reviews from those who have them.

Current set up is 20" 9J ET42 with a 275/40/20 (I know, I know, they came on the van!), lowered 40mm on Koni by @CRS Performance. I get slight rubbing at full lock on the nearside inner.
Speedo currently reads 30mph at a GPS speed of 32mph.

I've found a couple of wheel/tyre packages that look okay to me on willtheyfit, but want to get an idea if they are suitable, or if one would be better than the other:

Option 1. 17" 8.5J ET34 with 235/65/17

Option 2. 17" 8J ET30 with 235/65/17

If I could benefit from the accumulated wisdom, it would be appreciated.

Will they fit is your friend:

I'd guess your current 20's are rubbing due to the inner poke. And the 8" wide will look identical too the 8.5" wide but poke in less so less risk of rubbing.

If you have a T6 (not 6.1) you can easily get the speedo aligned back too, with VCDS etc.

Thanks for that, I thought I was reading it the same, but good to get confirmation. I sort of preferred the 8” option anyway.
It’s a 6.1, but I’m not too bothered about the speedo as I run waze more or less the whole time anyway.

Option 1 is what I run (Fuel Zephyrs?) on my T6 with a measured 90mm drop. I get no rubbing at all but my speedo is closer than yours now.
Was your van originally on 16's?

It was the Zephyrs, so good to know.
I bought it with the 20’s already on, so not sure if it was originally 16 or 17”

It seems the wildpeaks AT3 are the AT tyres to go for, their new version , wildpeak AT4 not so good, so grab them while available

Is there a new AT4WA, or is it an AT4W? Because that's a different tyre. The WA is the more road biased version, the W is more off-road like the K02. As you can see, different tread patterns.

AT4W (below) is a replacement for the AT3W, not the AT3WA

The AT3WA is the equivalent of the BF Goodrich trail terrain, only better.

Are people using the wildpeak AT3WA?
I’ve been trying to buy the AT3W , but can’t find a supplier, only the AT3WA
Also the newer AT4W isn’t available yet it seems, I’m looking for the Wildpeaks that will perform the best in winter time, I don’t want to buy a set dedicated winter tyres
After 235 65 17
Cheers

AT4W and AT3W are much more off road biased tyres than the AT3WA, which a lot of us on here use.

When you say winter, do you just mean normal UK winters or proper snow conditions? The AT3WA is one of the best road biased all terrain tyres, they're excellent in dry and wet tarmac, and they're 3 peak snow rated so it's a full winter tyre as far as the EU is concerned.

Hi
Full on winter snow in Europe and the nordics
Yes I’m after the more aggressive tread pattern, but maybe I’ll just get the WA
which tyre are you running on your van

If you want better off road and snow performance then maybe the K02 235/65 would be better.

Is you van 4motion? If so then the AT3WA would probably be fine in full on snow, if it's FWD then I'd guess the K02 would be better - however I've got no experience of the either in the snow.

I do know people use K02's on RWD transits in the Nordics and can tow people out when they stuck.

Yes it is a 4M, I think I’ll go for the Wildpeaks as the price is very good, £108 each
Cheers for the info
With 4motion and the AT3WA unless you're doing full on extreme off reading you'll be good!

Here's a video review of them on a 4wd Freelander and they have done some proper off roading.

You'll have much better road performance and still really good off road and snow with them and the 4motion.
