Just a bit of info for anyone looking to upgrade to the THQ struts.

The struts can cope with the weight of a rear ladder AND carrier and wheel. Glad I didn’t buy the £200+ Uber Bus components struts now!

Are they the 1200n ones? If so I’m not surprised it holds all that up. I fitted some of those (maybe not from thq) after fitting my bike rack and I basically had to hang off it to get it to close!

Yeah the 1250 Nm ones for £29.95.

Yeah to close it was a pain with just the ladder but now i've fitted the carrier and wheel it closes much easier BUT remains open when needed. Win Win

Yes, I have 1250N on which lifts my tailgate + bike rack, and I have to hang on it to pull it down. I got the stronger struts with the intention of fitting the mud tracks to the bike carrier, but not actually done that yet.

To the bike carrier?
I can't see one on your setup..
I'm only asking because I'm looking for a storage solution for my maxtrax

Yes, on the carrier, I haven’t got round to fabricating a solution yet. Simplest option is just straps around the rails.
Better option would be two brackets, each with two sword pins. Bolt the brackets to the rack, and fit the maxtrax with swordpins.

I'm waiting on a peli box I'll fit to my roof rack, so I think I'll fab up some brackets to fit it the maxtrax sideways at an angle to act as a fairing for the box.
I've already got their twist lock style fittings - maybe they're the sword pins you mentioned
