Tow bar electrical fault [Resolved]

Just connected caravan to van and have no brake lights or left hand indicator on caravan. Lights on van all ok, but same thing occurs when I attach bike rack with trailboard so figuring that issue is on van not caravan. I have checked the three 15A fuses in the engine bay and they all seem fine. The only thing I have done since I last towed was to install 240V socket in engine bay and run cable back to consumer unit under the passenger seat. The module for the Westfalia tow bar kit is under here, but I didn't disconnect any of the plugs in the control module. I did add new earth wire to earthing point under the passenger seat and wonder if that has caused a problem. Any ideas please?

The problem was a loose wire in the fuse box next to the battery. In my defence was under 30m of insulation tape!

Just having the same problem, having stripped my trailer apart thinking it was that. Everyone talks about the fuse box for the tow kit under the passenger seat? I need to look harder. My faults are identical to yours faults last year.

Hi, try the fuses next to battery. Easy to locate abs light be same cause as mine.

Hi nl1965,
Yep that's what it was. There were 4 fuses in a bank next to the batt and obviously it was the last one I checked.
Same thing is happening with the wife's car so back to the trailer. Changed a stop and tail light and hopefully that is it resolved....thanks.

Just in case anyone has a similar issue with a right connections loom there were two 15amp fuses on the loom near the battery which had oxidised - one of which caused the poor connection. Interestingly both fuses weren’t mentioned in the installation guide I had so was more luck than fault finding.
