Tracker needed for insurance? or needed for good price?

Hi all,

In the process of having a T6.1 converted (total value once done will be around £57k and looking at build options and will be researching insurance soon.

Just wanted to get a feel of how much a tracker is likely needed to get insurance and/or what annual discount it's likely to add vs without?
Did you have to get one for your insurance? and how much extra would you have paid without one?
And if yes what kind of tracker was required, did it have to be Thatcham T5 / T7? Really just want to work out if it's worth shelling out the near £1k that the device, fitting plus lifetime subscription will add.

If I didn't go with a tracker i'd still be planning to get something like a Disklok plus a wheel clamp I think, i certainly wouldn't go without any extra security, though the van is a highline so comes with an anti-theft alarm for what that's worth too.

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan.

Where insurance is concerned, never say never and never say always, but usually an insurer will either require a tracker be fitted as a condition of cover or they won't be bothered whether one's fitted or not. In my experience, it's unusual for an insurer to offer a discount for having a tracker fitted voluntarily.
