Transporter Side Bars - Awareness

Anyone considering installing side bars to their Transporter? If so I’ve made a short video that may help your decision making.

It’s a video showing the powder coated mild steel side bars I’ve just removed from my T6.1 after 3 years (24,000 miles). I’m replacing them with stainless steel bars - the video will show you why.

Hope it helps if anyone else is considering fitting side bars.

They look very much like the ones I got from vanstyle which have been on my t6 for 5 years now (with front mudflaps) and I don’t believe are anywhere near as bad. I will give them more of a check over at the next wash now though

I’ve got the powder coated stainless ones from vdub they lasted about 3 years and the powder coating is flaking off mainly underneath but then the water gets in and it flakes.

Rub it down and satin black hammerite makes it look pretty good but it’s a constant job as they get older

Im thinking about taking mine off as they are badly corroded and the quality doesnt seem great. A bit like in the OP post

I guess the question is to replace, re coat ( I dont think this will be that good ) or just leave them off but I ' worry ' about the brackets gathering mud and causing more corrosion in the future to the body although I will give them a good coat of wax oil

Any ideas very welcome. The van will look good without them I think actually
