Trouble Brewing.....

I normally put forward the best case for anything I purchase and hope she agrees.
Failing that try and spin it to think of some reason it would benefit her or our camping experience
Failing that its an investment (private plate could be argued on this point)
Failing that, buy it and hide (cant hide a plate)
Buy it and say you bought with a bonus you got paid(its your bonus and you will spend it on what you want) but remember something small for her as well out of the said bonus ;)
Buy it, quarantine it for a while, bring out in the future and then claim you had it ages and she agreed “don’t you remember “
Make a point of selling unwanted gear and stashing the proceeds in you secret paypal account balance and use that for van purchases, they don’t show on the bank statement.
Finally, and the winning argument for my private plates; they make a brand new vehicle look older and therefore your not showing off to the family or neighbours.

We have been married for 35 years :)

It’s a pension plan...a blue chip investment..We Could double are money..You know I only want the best for you

Well that’s just great All of our war strategy and battle plans out there in the public domaine in plain site of the enemy;)
On a positive note sharing the secrets to marital bliss can’t be a bad thing :)....married for 38 years .....

Christ, i'm only 22 years in. Are you pair saying I still have to do the secret 'Dance' at 35 and even 38 years in.

I never had this much trouble with any other vehicle I owned.

I've been married 29 years and my wife bought me the private 'T6" plate for my birthday. In those 29 years I have learnt that I can positively influence my preferred outcome but need to be patient!! I just start to drop subtle clues in the months leading up to it. i.e. "ohh, you've got to admit a T6 plate would look good on our T6" (good to drop in when you see one out and about); "You can get T6 plates pretty cheap - look..." (show her the search results - she'll also then know where to go to buy one); "We could get T6 ???" where ??? is based on her initials, our initials etc.

My lovely wife bought an Landrover 90 for my 40th....as I wanted to try offroading as a hobby. Same scenario! Now that thing ate cash like water!

You have a very, very lovely wife if she bought you a defender, lucky man

This thread is getting brave.

Only 2 years in April for us so this is not looking good. I really want a private plate but our current one (by chance) is KNC (Karen + Neil's Camper) so husband is not keen.

Plenty more battles to be fought before that though... awning, LED lights, the mats to help get you out of mud, etc. The list is an endless "discussion".

Good luck with the "haven't you spent enough on that van". Never a good phrase to hear because any of the correct answers you give will be wrong.

Yep you only have 2 ways out . death or divorce not that I would recommend either. So you need to learn to dance ! I tend to do the “quick step “ when she spots that I’ve bought something I quickly step out of the swiping zone!:)
