Turbo - anyone upgraded.

Hi Guys,

Standard Turbo on a T6 150bhp - I do find this turbo a little noisy, seems to whistle more than im used to - albeit only on cars I’ve owned.

Even putting your foot down a little I can hear it cut in around 1800rpm - is this a characteristic anyway?

I’m interested, what’s the average life of these Turbos? Mines ex RAC with 125k on.

Is there an upgraded or better alternative if it went? Or someone recommended who could rebuild it.

Eventually like to remap it but nothing daft.

Hi.
Are to you sure it's not a boost leak somewhere or maybe the EGR pipe which is known to split? The symptoms are whistling but it can also create a diesel exhaust smell in the cabin as the gases are released in the engine bay. Just a thought.

I only have the 140 so a different turbo and intake but it certainly isn't loud enough to be annoying.

Thanks for responding.

It seems to boost ok and there’s no fumes into the cabin.

It’s just “noticeable” if you know what I mean.

The pipe looks pretty new although I couldn’t find anything in the service printout to show it has been done.

You can't the turbo normaly.

I had it checked out mate, but was told it’s ok. They do whistle a bit. I’m still researching though as eventually I’d like to remap and future proof it for another 130k miles! Can’t find anything specific about it all, maybe rebuilding the current one with upgraded bits could be the way?
