I’m sure this must of been asked before but I have just spoken to VW regarding my audio saying contact dealer which I try to get on app connect . So I rang VW and the service department Said it would cost me £250 to get this function working as they have to apply for a code.
is this correct ?
has anybody else had this issue?
or is there a cheaper way of achieving this without using a main dealer?

Yes it’s correct.
You can get your head unit cracked for around £100
You‘ll have to replace your USB sockets for Apple compatible if you have an iPhone

Is that in a new or used van Andy?

Asking as the VW website infers that new 6.1 vans come with this as standard now (Startline and Highline). Looks like We Connect needs a contract, but not App Connect, and wasn’t expecting any extra costs for App Connect when mine arrives.

I made a conscious choice not to upgrade to the built in sat nav unit, as the app connect will allow you to use your phones map/navigation app (as well as music and phon) and have it displayed on the head unit - or at least that’s the way I understand it.

There’s a couple of good videos on youtube if you search California Chris. He’s done one for apple and android.

So to me, seems worthwhile if you want that functionality.
