Upgrading Starter Battery - how to guide

It’s time again to replace my starter battery. It’s a 70AH so want to upgrade. It’s going to be the 95HA Bosch or Exide. The Bosch has a longer warranty. Exide offers 2 models, the EK950 and Ek960, They appear to be physically and performance identical but the 960 is £50 cheaper. Any thoughts/ recommendations? Is there any VCDS users near Chester that can help recode please?
I went for the Bosch, you can code them on Carista, I did!

Yes, the code required for the Bosch is VAO
Change the serial number by one digit, and change the Ah to 95.
Hopefully you are a pro arm wrestler?! It does go in don't worry! Strong forearms is key.
I will remove my welding ring next time I fit one, managed to trap my finger last time...

Ok I'm a little confused about which battery I can choose from.

My van has been loosing power recently to the point I can't start the vehicle. If I haven't driven it in a few days.

I think my dashcam is faulty and draining the battery as I can't think of what else it could be.

Anyway I asked a neighbour if he minded if I could jump start my van. ( I know I shouldn't have let him attach the jumper cables, but he did and he connected the positive to the negative) hopefully there isn't any other electrical damage to my vehicle but my battery is definitely dead.

I know VW charges double the cost of an after market battery.

But I'm not exactly sure which battery I should be putting in it.

It says EFB+ on the original but I thought this was related to having a stop start system which my vehicle doesn't have.

I tried searching some of the batteries mentioned in this thread buy it seems those particular models aren't available here in Australia.

We do have Varta, Amaron, Bosch ST hightec, and Century ISS Active AGM (this last one being the most commonly available)

Other than the dimensions of the battery what else do I need to consider when choosing one?
 
I just fitted AGM 115 to mine. Slightly bigger footprint but it fits fine. More cranking amps and more capacity. Coded in no problem with OBD11
 
Hey all, I'm guessing the answer is a resounding yes, but when I go to sites and put in the T6 reg number, it says the Bosch S5 A13 battery is not compatible, but the smaller one is.

We're in a pickle now and the van's current battery is FUBAR'ed.

So we'd like to buy the battery, and get a mobile fitter in to quickly fit it and code the battery. Can I confirm the S5 A13 battery fits EVERY T6, or are there exceptions?

I'm sensing my starter is starting to enter the end of it's life (powered sliders are getting a little "lazy" at doing the final tuck in, the CTEK charger has timed out a couple of times while maintaining the battery as it sits on the drive)

I'm a single battery van (MY21 T6.1 Caravelle) currently so I'm wondering about using the larger battery:
  • For those of you that fitted the 95Ah was it worth the additional juggling?
  • Has anyone fitted one to a T6.1 with the extra fun of the battery top fusebox? I'm assuming that's just on the bracket so doesn't care about the width of the battery below it - or does that matter with the tails for that box ending up to short?
  • Does the frost jacket still fit, or is it not a problem if it doesn't?

I put the Bosch S5 a13 95Ah in 18 months ago, it was a bit of an arm wrestle to get it in, when I put the next one in I will remove my welding ring which hindered my progress!
Lucky for me I have the poverty Startline model without the fusebox on top.
The frost jacket is nowhere near big enough, so rather than a potentially unsafe bodge, I just removed it.
No problems getting through the winter, it didn't seem to feel the cold!
The battery is kept at 12.3v (70%ish) by the Ablemail AMT12-2, and started every time I asked it.
Coded in easily with Carista, I'll have the same again next time please!
