Uprated Tailgate Struts

Transporter HQ can supply them too, £25. I did mine at camperjam last summer. Get a second pair of hands, but it's a 15 min job if you don't know what you're doing.

Are the SGS ones rated the same as the original VW ones or are they a higher rating

How do you tell if the gas struts are worn?

I’ve got a tailgate mounted VW bike rack, the tailgate already has the updated 1200N struts fitted but with even just one bike fitted the door struggles to stay open. It is fine when there are no bikes mounted.

Are new struts likely to help?

Ok thanks

I wouldn’t expect it to hold a load of bikes up but I was surprised when it struggled with just one child’s bike.

Hi guys, after sound deadening and carpeting on the tailgate it has a bit of weight to it.

I just fitted Transporter HQ 1250nm tailgate struts which open great but it's a bit of an effort to close now. Looking more in-depth there more for bike racks. Are there other ones that are more in between? In terms of strength.

Cheers

The VW 1200 Nm struts are for when the Cali tailgate insert (which includes 2 chairs) and a VW bike carrier are fitted together.

You will find it too much especially when the weather is warm!

@Dilbert Yeah no wonder it is an effort then. I will try one of each and if not will just revert back to the standard pair.

There are also 900 Nm struts available. These are normally used when just one extra weight is on the tailgate.

I found the 1200’s too strong for my bike rack on a standard tailgate with no sound deadening or insulation.

I bought some genuine intermediate struts (950NM IIRC) and a pair of them were a good balance. Would hold the tailgate open even in low ambient temperatures. Easy to close too.

Edit - just noticed Pauly’s post - yes 985N

Sounds good, where did you get those ones from?

It was a converter on eBay... They convert T6s for people with mobility issues. I’ll try and find the seller and update you....
